TCASII, sounds and display in Glass Cockpits (upload)
Hi,
I have uploaded the following files to
www.projectmagenta.com/latest.html:
tcassounds.zip
pmsounds55j.zip
new abgc and gc... pmrj will follow shortly
Please unzip tcassounds.zip and place the wav files into the
/Sounds subfolder.
One important note... Joe Jurecka (author of SquawkBox)
popped up after he disappeared for quite a while, pointing
out that the old ntcas sound was actually from his program -
I was quite startled, as it had been sent to me by a
customer and I thought it was his. (all other sounds have a
legit source).
In any case, much to my surprise and delight, Joe was so
kind as to record the new sounds that you find in the zip,
many thanks go to his very cooperative wife Kim and to Joe
for his initiative. I would have had to make do with some
synthetic stuff otherwise.
This is the initial phase of implementation, by no means is
this complete yet, the other situations will be added as I
am adding the conflict situation generator to the Instructor
Station, so more will follow.
I also added a new method of handling sound triggering to
pmSounds via an offset/value, this is being used by TCAS II
so you should see new entries and a description in the
soundslist.txt file.
Please let me know if more information is needed.
Ciao
Enrico

Enrico-
Hi. While you're working on this stuff, I thought I would thrown in a
feature request for the TCAS test mode triggered by a fsuipc offset. What I
found in one of my manuals:
Note: TCAS TEST is displayed on the navigation display during
the test followed by TCAS TEST PASSED or TCAS TEST
FAILED. This test remains in view for 8 seconds then
blanks. An aural annunciation sounds at the completion of.
If you need any further info, please let me know via email. I have a TON of
documentation on the NG TCAS system.
Great job!

I will keep my eyes on it, but I am moving on to other stuff
right now. Delivery of this part isn't due until end of next
month.

Hi Enrico,
The new TCAS looks very nice.
Could I bring up an old request of mine when the new tcas is finished?
I would truly cry for an inbuilt GC option to switch on NDArc only when
the EICAS TFC (or weather) is on. Possible?

I am not sure I understand what you mean? It should switch
to ND Arc automatically? Are you using 8 or 4 positions?
And why cry?

Sounds like my 4-year-old son... just his TCAS doesn't
always work
No time Toulouse, off to the airport now.

Hi Enrico,

Yes indeed. The arc is on when either TFC or weather map is on. Otherwise it
is not displayed (at least in the 737 it is so).
"Displayed in APP and VOR modes when the EFIS WXR map switch
is selected or TCAS TFC switch is selected."
Have a nice trip!
