Re: Garmin G1000
Interesting thread. I am working on this too but with a 10.4" screen, not 12". It would be nice to use 12" because not many 10.4" screens are capable of 1024 res
The buttons are the trickiest part and finding concenrtic encoders for the knobs is proving hard work. In fact the button/knob issue wound me up so badly that I went and bought the original set from a Garmin distributor at great expense.

Re: Garmin G1000
I have just uploaded the file I drew using Cut2d. I have already cut this panel in 1/4" lexan. I do not know how long it will take to post, but sometimes it can take a while. Any questions, just ask.

Re: Garmin G1000
yes i am sort of resigned to the fact that until i can afford the genuine knobs the knobs will not be the exact replicas. i have found a source of know here is aus, so that has made life a little easier.
as far as the build goes, ihave got the panels, got the lcd controllers, now i am working on the back cover which will double as a holder for all the pcb's and the front panels will sit on top of it. just have to work out dimensions and actually build it. i have designed, etched and asembled all the pcbs for both screens, not what you would expect from mass produced items, but very tidy and usable none the less.
I have come up with a solution to the labeling issue, i am going to print my own decals on white decal paper. which will be put on to the panels and buttons, then depending on how much light is let through, i may have to put a coulpe of layers down. the decal method seems to be the most cost effective way i can find to do this. i will then clear laquer over them to give a nice hard finish
but everything is on hold at the moment, as my wife is in hospital with a blood clot in her leg, so until she is better everything else is on hold.
i will try and post some pictures of what i have accomplished so far when i get a chance

Re: Garmin G1000
Jason, above all, take care of the wife first. I would be interested in seeing the PCBs, as I also make my own. I use the positive resist method. My boards have been coming out really well lately. One of these days I may even make something for myself...I am more interested in Helicopters than I am in planks. The Bell 206 may be the one I model.....who knows. Take care of the wife.

Re: Garmin G1000
well i am having to chop up the panels alttle to make it work, wo it isn't going to be quite the polished item i had hoped, a few things have cionsipred against me, th screens are the big one. but that is ok for me, as it was more about function and a simulation not an exact replica. will try and post some pics of the progress.
my wife is out of hospital, so i now have a bvit more time to work on my panels
