Mycockpit.org Cockpit lights interface for PMDG 747-400 available now

FBS has developed a lights interface for the PMDG Boeing 747-400 for FS2004 and FSX, specifically for cockpit builders.

Use it to obtain the status of all lights, from Overhead to CDU panels, through FSUIPC or to drive your lights directly through Phidgets LED64 Advanced boards.

No 737 Version? Just work with Phidgets cards?

Re: Cockpit lights interface for PMDG 747-400 available now

We developed the 747 first because there is currently nothing available for people wanting to build a Boeing 747 and we feel that a lot of people have (wrongly) been put off by that. The forums are full of people saying that you cannot interface to the PMDG 747-400 and this is just not true. Also, we genuinely believe that it is way cheaper to build a 747 cockpit than a 737 one.

As far as cockpit builders are concerned, the PMDG 747 is far superior to the PMDG 737 in terms of realistic interfacing. (Independent Captain and F/O EFIS controls and displays, independent left and right CDUs etc.) PMDG handles all of the instruments, FSUIPC Mouse Macros handle all of the inputs, and only the outputs were missing. (We will gladly write some tutorials here if people are interested).

Having said this though, we accept that a lot of people have passed the point of no return with the 737. Cost and time investments dictate that they carry on with their existing projects.

PMDG has announced that they intend to release an SDK for the 737 NGX for FSX. We are not yet sure if this will be available to the average cockpit builder or if it will only be available to Add-on hardware developers. You should look seriously at this because you may well get independent instrumentation in the NGX. (No more inverted FO displays through VGA splitters)

If there is still a requirement for the 737-6/7/8/9 for 2004, then we will gladly create an outputs interface. (The overhead panel lights seem to be sorely missed and add-on MCP and CDUs are expensive to buy, but actually quite cheap to make.) Please show your interest here or on our website so that we can get a feel for numbers. We are here to help, but only if it is needed.

The FBS47 Interface will work with any hardware that has driver software that can directly read from an FSUIPC offset. The first thing that the FBS47 Interface does is to write all the lights and displays statuses to FSUIPC for this exact purpose. We added direct Phidgets support to this because that is what we use in our cockpits. We are open to providing direct support for other cards if people let us know what they want to use. Write something here or drop us an email from our website.

For information purposes, our current project is motorised throttle support and realistic autopilot and trim support for the flight controls, via RC servos. This will work with both the 747 and 737 for both FS2004 and FSX. We will keep you posted on developments.

Certainly I would be a customer for a 737 version if it were available.

    Me too!!

    Compativle with FSBUS or IOCards.

I believe that the market for 737 is much larger, few people invest in cockipt to 747, because not much in the market for that model.

OK. We have done some preliminary testing and it is possible for us to access the status of the overhead lights and build an interface for the PMDG 737NG 6/7/8/9 for FS2004.

I am going to start a new thread for this, so please move your correspondence there.

I have started a thread for an interface for the 737NG.

    Refer to the thread:

Should FBS create a lights interface for the PMDG Boeing 737NG for FS2004?

    for further discussion around this.

Re: Cockpit lights interface for PMDG 747-400 available now

    Hi Guys,
I have just purchased FBS47 for FSX and am about to start testing it with my opencockpits interface cards I have made.

I have the seven segment display interface and one master card, so that should at least cover some basic testing of the MCP and other panels.

I have had a desire to build a 747 cockpit and found that most current sites are geared arounf 737NG so finding software/hardware which works with PMDG is like finding hen's teetch.... It is very scarce.

Did I mind paying for the FBS47 before I test, no. I am willing to pay as it means I don't have to keep restarting FSX to debug any issues I come across.

    Regards,
    AlexB

    Hi AlexB,
I am also thinking of buying the FBS47 for my 747 cockpit build. Have you any news, how is the product working for you?
