state of the art in flight simulation modeling

Hello everyone, long time no see. I am starting my PhD in Mechanical/Aerospace Eng and I would like to do my thesis in Computational Fluid Dynamics applied to flight simulation modeling.
I need to figure out what the state of the art in flight modeling is. It is easy to find information about desktop flight models, but I can't find anything on commercial, military or research sims. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thank you!

You should contact Austin Meyer, the maker of X-Plane. He should know.
    Also, try CAE www.cae.com

    Good luck on your PhD!

thanks, I registered with the Xplane forums and will ask there as well. I couldn't find anything useful on the CAE forum, very likely al the programming info is all proprietary

Take a look through the past few years of proceedings of the AIAA http://www.aiaa.org/. I suspect that a conversation with "Prof Bill" here on MyCockpit would be worthwhile as well.
