    Axis controlled Panning view

Not sure this is available on commercial joysticks: Below page describes a way to use a mini joystick from Alps to adjust the left/right & up/down panning in stead of normal HAT switch. The result is quite good.

    Hi Roland,
Where did you get/find the hat on the joystick?
I am looking for something similiar for a another totally unrelated project!

Bill, i've seen those what you are looking for. They are simply the rotational parts in handheld controllers (eg. The playstation one.)

I've dismantled them myself and they are quite useful.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Geremy,

    Many thanks for the information!

I asked some students this morning and I now have seven controllers which more than meets our experimental requirements!

    Bill.

    Hi Bill,

Good to know you have your own supply of these mini sticks now.
Note that there are also other goodies in these game controllers, like the trigger type control (I used them in my toe-brakes, see diy force feedback) and small vibration motors, that could be used as stick shaker.
