korry tryout
Hi,
the last weeks I.ve been looking for plastic square tube 20 x 20 x 1 mm.
but I couldn't find it. yesterday I bought a piece of steel 20 x 20 x 1.25 mm.
here 2 photo's of the first steps (korry 0.01b) :

Re: korry tryout
Nice! I have been looking for a way to do this. Could you post a pic of the seperated parts and the end cap?
Thanks!

Re: korry tryout
at the moment I'm thinking about making the endcap of 8 mm. pvc so it can resist
a small screw from the side to fix it. (better than glue)
with that same screw I could fix a small clear strip to mount it in the panel (better than glue )
not shown is the top cap. the top cap will be glued after spraying "metallic" color. (so the korry is front mounted)
I'm enthausiastic about the steel pipe, to cut 80 pieces at 40 mm. is no problem. (and cheap)
about milling the topcaps from two sides, making a symetric layout mounted with 4 screws in the corners should make it be possible to turn it and mill from the "backside" too
I'm thrilled with the idea but the neighbours sleepWhen once you have tasted flight,

Re: korry tryout
I got a piece of 8mm. clear acryl, so I could do some experimenting (coping ideas from this forum )
8+8+1.5=17.5 that's what I need for the korry's. first 3 gearlights, that's more easy
I glued the pieces together with strong 2k glue. afterwards (20 min.) I milled it 17,5 x 30 mm.
don't trust the last photo much much better in real.
for doing mass production a good table-circle-saw is maby better. When once you have tasted flight,

Re: korry tryout
this concept of building square lightblocks works better than expected.
Having them "on stock" is my next goal in search for making korry's
in real the color is much better. or did I say that before ?When once you have tasted flight,

Re: korry tryout
I was thinking what would be the best material
to make legends for the korry from ?
I tried 2 mm. clear acryl blackpainted and milled from the back.
Than I get what I expect. good but not perfect.
What I want is a non-glossy top layer and a littlebit more lightspread than clear.
does "etche-sign-foil" work ?
keep the letters sharp when you mill text on the back of "iced" 2mm. acryl ?When once you have tasted flight,

Re: korry tryout
I made little frontcaps for the "pipes"
a thin legend can be placed between them.
this is 4 mm. heigh, I'll try also 3mm. maby that's more elegant, although
doing 3d in panels is really nice I think. This is getting me closer to a working korry

Re: korry tryout
This looks so wonderful! Thank you for sharing it! I was just curious though, how did you make the end caps? Also, was cutting the steel hard? I'm thinking of buying some 5/8" cubes and some 3/4" steel tube like yours with 0.065" walls. It looks very professional! And tedious, but I guess it's worth it. I'd much rather make a nice set that lasts a little.
