Sorry it took so long to respond... I've been out of town on a family emergency and now am back.

It's unfortunate the security of the site make it difficult to get back into the groove, once cookies have been lost. I've had the same problem

Deleting all temp files and cookies normally resolve the problem, as you found out

I found out that when I have this problem, just go directly to the forum page and log on there... it works perfectly every time for me. Must be something with the front page.
