Opencockpits - Price does not include VAT.

I spent the best part of the afternoon researching the products I required to get me started on my build. With my list all ready I went to the opencockpits site to place my order. 30 minutes of checking I had the right things - more research - back to the opencockpits site I went.
I ordered 800 euros of "stuff" - went to checkout - 50 euros postage added - ok that was expected then....... WHAM - VAT added which took it to nearly a grand.
Now maybe I am being naive BUT whenever I have bought online VAT has always been included or there are 2 figures. One of which will say (inc VAT).
I did not go through with the order - even though I want these items, because I am a stubborn $£%& and I felt I have been misled.
Am I on my own here or should I have somehow realised that the prices are excluding VAT.
    Rant over.....
    Allan.

Don't know about your location but for me (in the USA) he vat gets removed after I've placed the order. That is of course, because I'm not supposed to be charged the vat.

    I'd email them.

Matt I think Allan has an issue not with the fact that VAT is added (which as far as I know should be for his location) but that the site doesn't expressly state that the prices are without VAT until its time to make a purchase.

Yes Allan - I felt exactly the same as you do. The VAT being added very late in the purchase process comes as a nasty surprise plus of course the rather expensive postage costs (especialy if you are purchasing something small). Having said all that, I have purchased panels etc from OC and their products are excellent quality. This cockpit building is an expensive hobby!

    Alan

If I recall correctly, a few years ago their prices were inclusive of VAT - which was probably putting off our US cousins! They then changed to the current system which, like Bill, caused me a shock at the time

They really should point out earlier that VAT will be added

Re: Opencockpits - Price does not include VAT.

I realise cockpit building is an expensive hooby, it is not the price that is the problem, if they were upfront and displayed a price which included VAT then I would have still bought the items. It is the feeling of being misled. 20% is a lot to add during the final checkout phase and it came as a shock. It took me a week to persuade The Ministry Of Finance (the wife) that spending 800 euros on little electric gizmos that flash and beep is a worthwhile investment.
She has gone shopping for a new sofa as compensation.

I know that I will end up buying from them as the quality is excellent, but it has left a nasty taste in my mouth - and that does not include the thick lip the wife gave me when I said it will cost 150 euros more.

Spanish VAT rate is 18%. You should have been charged 18% tax, not 20%.

Leo our friend does not care about the price or the vat value. He felt miss led about the fact that vat is not included or is not stated that it is not added.

To be honest I felt the same way too when ordered all pedestal modules. It was a bad point in my transaction, but it was too late to cancel the payment.... You see The joy when ordering is such that one cannot cancel easily.

When the pedestal box arrived together with all PnP modules, I realized that the box was problematic (many photos available), and that was the end of my relationship Between me and OC.

Just my personal experience and opinion of course.

Re: Opencockpits - Price does not include VAT.

    Qucik Example.

MCP Priced on the website at 345 Euros. Bargain you would say.

    +40 Euros shipping
    +69 Euros Vat.

    Total = 454 Euros...
Very, very, very, very, very sneaky.
As was pointed out., by the time you get to checkout you are already in BUY IT MODE and it is difficult to say £^$% it when you want the item.

At that price point, you're near CPFlight prices....
