    Which output card for homebuilt steam instruments?

    I am looking into the possibility of homebuilt instruments for my GA pit. Looking to start simply with a vsi, turn coordinator and other "basic instruments".

    It looks like Phidgets and OC cards are the most common choices out there to build these. I would probably look at servo based units for these first instruments, rather than air core or steppers, but could be convinced of the error of my thinking with a good argument.
    I am not a programmer, so ease of synchronization of the instrument with FSX is pretty key to me.

    Any thoughts on what the best solution may be for a neophyte?(noob!)

    No programming required, just allocate which servo you want to work with whatever gauge, simkits software does the rest, drives LED's too....

    Thanks for the heads up about that. Did not know they even made one of those. Simkits prices still hurt compared to other manufacturers, but if it is that easy to configure it may be worth it. I am on the cusp of buying Mike Powell's instrument book, but even the sample chapters have me a bit intimidated. Some guys are just too brilliant. I am not one of those guys!

    Hi AK Mongo,

    I bought Mike's book and it changed my building. I was a bit intimidated by what others were building, but then I found myself trying more and more complex things. I also was looking for a simple interface solution, and back then, FSBus was it.

    FSBus has become a little more complex to program now but I have learnt enough C++ to get my whole cockpit interfaced (also with a lot of help from this forum). There is a lot of help her for Neophites so don't worry about that. Ask lots of questions and you will get lots of answers.

    I'll try to attach at picture of my latest creation. I have built the ADF/RMI gauges from Mikes book, but used FSBus as the interface.

    Above all, enjoy the challenge of building.

    That card is the best for engine instruments and gauges that move less than 369 degrees. Ive used the LED function too, though on most projects will likely want to leave those slots free to controls servos.

    The down side to this card no capability to control functions such an altimeter or HSI. It also will not work on a 64bit PC. But it is still a card I recommend.
