BU0836X with a Rotary encoder. Slow/fast dialing problem solved.

    Hello !

Several month ago I bought a BU0836X and I installed the program BU836_encoders.exe to drive.
It worked turning the Rotary encoders slowly , but when turning faster.. did not make any diff.

Tried everything ...read a lot of post, here and there and everywhere....

    No solution !!

    But yesterday... !!!

I read a post in Pete Dowson forum.

I tried the proposal from boruca .... http://forums.simflight.com/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=79765

    AND IT WORKED !!!

Now I can turn my Encoder slow and fast and it works !!!!!

If the link I posted is enough to help you ..fine !!

If not ..I will try to make a little tutorial if there is an interest.

    Best regards

Hmm. So adjusting the pulse width in the BU836_encoders.exe dialog didn't help?

Re: BU0836X with a Rotary encoder. Slow/fast dialing problem solved.

    Hi Bjarne:

My name is Tracy from Costa Rica (boruca in Pete forum). Im happy that your encoders work fine with mi suggestion. However this solution resoults partial. I explain:

The encoder accuracy in VOR and ADF gauges is not very thin and jumps, its fast but not accurate. It's a bit hard to pick a exact value because encoder operation.

I am trying another option in search of better accuracy while maintaining speed with the ALPS EC 11 encoder. This encoder is a rotary unit, like CTS encoders, but the difference is in the operation. ALPS encoder has only 3 position (like a selector) ON (pulse) - NONE -ON (pulse). You may operate the encoder with one movement to left or right to obtein the pulses. and when you release de knob, the encoder self-return to NONE position in the center. The encoder turnrs like a CTS encoder but not complety, its a single turn to left or right. Visit this link for more info of EC11 encoder http://www.alps.com/WebObjects/catal.../EC11/EC11.PDF.

    Good luck

Tracy - boruca (Sorry, my english its not so good)

    Hello Tracy/ boruca

Newer guested I would hear from you Thank you !

You are right... fast but inaccurate !

Have you tried/tested the ALPS EC 11 encoder ?

The encoder turnrs like a CTS encoder but not complety, its a single turn to left or right.
How must I understand this ?

Can you keep on dialling to the right or to the left (360 degree)

or is it more like a "switch" on-off-on with a spring witch return the knob to off ?

    Best regards

    Bjarne

Re: BU0836X with a Rotary encoder. Slow/fast dialing problem solved.

    Hello.

My encoders are very slow, I cannot find under the latest version of fsuipc's ini file for fs9 where I am supposed to alter the text to make encoders go quicker, I cannot find where to change polling rate or button repeat. All I want to do is achieve fast movement of heading bug, vor, adf etc!

    Any suggestions much apreciated!

    Cheers.

    [Buttons]
    POLLINTERVAL=15
    ButtonRepeat=75,0

I do not think that it helps !

    What did help was
I read a post in Pete Dowson forum.

But as Tracy/ boruca reply´s here

Unfortunately I think it is only possible to get Leo´s card to work fairly good with encoders. It works fine with functions dialling slow , and very bad if you need to speed dial.
I have spend MUCH time reading..testing....
It also seems that Leo does not know how to solve the problem.
( would love to be wrong )

So.. I think I have to go for a OC card which supports speed dialling.

    OOPS !!

I just checked the link I posted in my first post

    ... BIG MISTAKE !

The solution I found came from here: http://www.leobodnar.com/forum/viewt...=svmapper#p665 posted by Learjet15 / Derek.
The link to svmapper is broken in that post. here a link that works http://forum.sukhoi.ru/attachment.ph...9&d=1173468799

The solution with svmapper work´s fine with gauges that has keyboad shorcut´s. like RealityXP .
It is still a problem with some standard FSgauges like gyro hdg. bug.

Of coarse you can combine the shortcut as you like, as long it is unused elsewhere.
If you have any assignment´s to RealityXp in FSUIPC, for these shortcut´s..delete them.

Sorry Leo and to everybody I have been misleading.

I works... But I still think it will work better with OC card´s.

    Regards

    Bjarne

    Hello to all:
I have investigated on the operation of encoders and them comment which I have found:
    1. Encoders makes with several resolutions that go from 4 pulses to 100 or more pulses (very expensive by the way).
    2. Card BU0836X of Bodnar interprets each encoder pulse like 1 or 4 pulses according configuration in the BU0836_encoders.exe.
    3. The problem with encoder CTS 288 and other similars is that it have a 16 pulses resolution, reason why if we configure in BU0836_encoders.exe. 1 pulse=1 pulse in the BU0836X we would have to cross 16 degrees in any gauge would have to give a complete return in encoder (22 returns to complete a return of 360º in a OBI VOR for example). Very precise but extremely slow and unreal. If we configure in BU0836_encoders.exe 1 pulse=4 pulse in the BU0836X and change the values of the POLLINTERVAL=15 ButtonRepeat=75,0 we would have rapidity but with terrible precision.
    4. Until the moment I have found two options to solve the problem:
    a. To use encoders with greater resolution (at least 100 pulses by revolution) with a configuration in BU0836_encoders.exe 1 pulso=1 pulse in the BU0836X would allow to rapidity and precision (with three returns we cross the dial of any gauge = 100º by encoder turn). This option is interesting but extremely expensive, since encoders of this type is very expensive.
    b. To use to encoder EC11 of ALPS http://www.alps.com/WebObjects/catal.../EC11/EC11.PDFthat allows to only simulate the sensation of knob but turns of 360º its no possible. This encoder its in fact a selector with three positions: ON (left) - NONE (to center) - ON (right) and with self-return capacity that gives back knob to position NONE in center. This encoder tour like knob but only 30º by side. If you want to select 1º in gauge it gives a touch knob and if you wanted to give returns in gauge one stays positioned in ON until it is arrived at the wished value. He is not very realistic, but it is physically looked like real one and it works quickly and accurate. The configuration in BU0836_encoders.exe would be 1 pulso=1 pulse and the POLLINTERVAL and ButtonRepeat stay with the value by defect of the FSUIPC.
I hope this information works to you.
    Greetings.

    Tracy - boruca
