Autopilot Transition
Hi,
I fly the PMDG 737-800 and have been wondering what the general opinion is as to when/what altitude the autopilot is turned off and manually flying the plane to touchdown. I have heard that it is usually at 1000' AGL.
Any opinions
Thanks
Rob

Re: Autopilot Transition
Depends on a wide variety of factors, like company policy, type of approach, etc.
For example if you wanted to perform a CAT II approach, the autopilot could be disconnected and fly manual 50 feet AGL, or after the minimums call out of the system.

Re: Autopilot Transition
For me, if I choose to use Autopilot it is at 18,000 feet, or FL180.

Re: Autopilot Transition
On departure it comes on at 10000 for me... I'm less committed on arrival but TRY to obey the same rule. That's my policy!

Re: Autopilot Transition
ak49er is confused... we 're talking 'bout switching of the autopilot before tochdown.
Normally, you take over from the autopilot after your last check at 500 ft.
And don 't forget to switch off the A/T as well.
Brake a leg.

Re: Autopilot Transition
Don 't bother, I typed tochdown instead of touchdown. That's the new style of landing
