    X Plane

Guys i have been using xplane for sometime now and as a simulator it is far superior to MSFS although I use fs9 primarily if you really want "as real as it gets" then xplane is the way forward and the scenery and addons are there but you just need to look.

    Here are a couple:

If adding X-Plane compatibility to PM was a good idea BEFORE all the hysteria about Microsoft supposedly dumping the FS franchise (no such thing has been announced by Mocrosoft), then it is a good idea afterwards. If it was not of interest before the Microsoft ACES layoffs....... then it still is likely not a good idea.

FS2004 and FSX still work quite well...and will for some time.

    best,

Just to add a little comparison to the mix. Some of you may have read this interesting article over at Sim Pilot Magazine comparing the flight dynamics of FSX and X-Plane using the default 172 in each plus the Realair 172 for FS. It appears X-plane doesn't quite live up to it's claims regarding flight geometry and realistic aerodynamics.

Ken, I had read another post on here where the Owner/Developer Austin Meyer had rebutted most claims rather successfully, and categorically using that article as a template, interesting reading either way. I have not found it to link yet though.

I guess the debate will continue but I can see Austin stepping up development in light of ACES demise. I must say that PFC sell their commercial sims loaded with X-plane however it is a specifically developed commercial version. Probably would still use the same science behind it though.

Would be interested to hear anyone here who's done a similar comparison.

If PM was compatible with x-plane, I would not hesitate to make the switch from MS. The performance difference I get from x-plane on the same hardware as FSX/FS9 is remarkable. Sure, FSX along with addons "looks" a lot better, but I would be willing to sacrifice the eye candy if x-plane could be used as a sim platform for my cockpit.

My current rig is based on FSX and gets about 30-35 fps in the air, which sounds like it could be quite smooth, except for the many hiccups and stutters. They make it unbearable most of the time. I never see those stutters when I run x-plane. For the record, yes, I have spent 2 years trying to tweak FSX every which way possible and my current config I believe is the best I can get.

My wish list would be for Enrico to work with Austin to come up with a way to make PM compatible. Unrelated to this exact discussion, I would also like to see Austin revamp the user interface for X-plane as well as some of those horrible looking generic 2d panels. It needs some new life at this point....

    Hi

I would not worry about the whole X-Plane issue for now, it is still very early days since the MS news. We will review all of this. As I am sure everyone has read, there are all sorts of opinions and views on this, all of course noted. There is years of usage in FS still, and plenty of time to look at the options for X-Plane or other simulator platforms to connect to.
