When is the APU switched back on again?

At what point do you switch the APU back on again when landing?
Oh, and another one. When do you select gears down?
Oh, and another - Does it matter when you decide to switch on the FD before take off?

Hope you can sort out a european time slot for teamspeak.

    Best wishes,

    Darren

    Hey Darren,

Yeah trying to work out a slot for the Europe friends! Will have more on that before the end of this week!!

    >At what point do you switch the APU back on again when landing?

Ok after Landing the Pilot FLying Disarms the Spoilers this is the Cue to start your after Landing Flow and during this flow you Start the APU which roughly is:

Xpndr Off, Engine Mode selector Normal, Flaps 0, TERRAIN ON ND off, FD´s Ils Switches off, ENGINE ANTIICE AND WING ANTI ICE Check OFF, APU START...

    >Oh, and another one. When do you select gears down?
Well at a convinient phase in the approach not to far behind probably some 5 Mile Final just so you don´t drag the gear for a long time burning more fuel... On an ILS approach according to Airbus SOP´s it is when you intercept the glideslope and you are on final descent some 5 miles out after Flaps 2... Basically when it turns to G/S* (Glideslope Star) on the FMA on the final approach you can select gear down! Also the gear can be selected down when you are high and fast it helps you deccelerate the Aircraft really really fast! And also is a good drag in case you are high!

    >Does it matter when you decide to switch on the FD before take off?

The FD switch is on and it is turned to On during the preliminary cockpit preparation and stays ON all the time Unless you don´t want to fly with an FD!

    Take care,

    Roberto

Thank you very much for that inormation. It is very much appreciated. I asked about the APU because watching some DVDs I have seen the APU switched on before landing (not the Airbus though).

    Regards,

    Darren

Actually I think on the Boeing it was when passing 10,000 or 20,000 not sure though but on Boeing you started the APU if I´m not wrong before landing!

    Take care,

    Roberto
