Tim,
I relied heavily on these two web sites for construction ideas and measurements. Please take a look;

He also as a tutorial at his site as well which helps explain much of the process.
For much of the shell covering, I used 1/4 inch Sintra board, which is a type of foamed plastic. I found that by laying the sintra board on a pizza stone in a warm oven for about 3 mins, that I able to bend, curve it quite easily(just make sure your wife doesn't catch you!). I used this idea to get the large curved piece on the from shell of the throttle quadrant.
