    Smile Off to Canaries!

    Hey all,

I'm off line for just over a week, as I fly off to Gran Canaria tomorrow.

Flying nice and cheap with Jet2.com on one of their 2 x 757-200s that are based in Newcastle (EGNT).

Here's one of the very planes, landing on runway 07 :

Usually some great plane spotting (I use the term loosely!) to be done at GCLP too ....all the nice Binter Canarias ATRs, and Iberia / Nostrum Dash 8s... Normally quite a lot of GA too.

See you all on a week, after some R&R, Vodka, and Paella!

Gez - Read my post...... .... Jet2 from Newcastle....

Steve - I bought that very magazine in the airport !

Had a great break - but coming home, the worst approach and landing I have ever experienced! I had already heard from friends that we had been experiencing gale force winds back home but I was not prepared for the approach - the plane was pitching wildly!! autothrottle (or pilot) was going crazy - seemed to be spooling up to TOGA like power, then spooling down to idle every few seconds.

There was total silence on the plane during this horrendous approach and sighs of relief once were down .... (the landing wasn't too hard, but we must of landed with quite a yaw angle, as the plane jolted harshly to the right after landing and seemed to zig zag to track the runway centre.

My wife is 5 months pregnant and I tell you she nearly had the baby there and then, she was so frightenened!

    All's well that end's well !

The approach into GCLP couldn't have been more different - beautiful blue skies, unlimited viz, and an interesting short turn final (visual) approach, that gave a fab view of the runway, PAPIs, etc, right up until the final turn, which seemed to be about 500-800' AGL.

Good to be back and hope everyone is well

My Go-Flight RP-48 has arrived, that will be used as the FCU on my feelTHere based A320/A330 cockpit ....... I have some painting to do (pedestal), and then phase 1 will be completed ..... I also have some new batteries for my power hungry camera, so no excuses, need to get some photos taken.
