Want to remove a VC from a FS aircraft?
Hi,
For those who have wanted to remove a virtual cockpit from a FS2004 Aircraft model but don't know how to, here's how:-
First, download the freeware Hex Editor called "XVI32", located here:-
http://www.programmersheaven.com/download/21568/download.aspx
Now, launch XVI32 and do the following.
1. Use FILE and OPEN and browse to FS root folder, Aircraft folder, the aircraft folder that you want to remove VC on, and finally the MODEL folder within that.
2. Select the .mdl file within the MODEL folder (there may be more than one, you will have process each of the different models if you want to remove VCs from them all.
3. Now, use XVI32's SEARCH function (it's either called Search or Find!) to look for the following Hex String (ensure the radial button for Hex Strings is selected in the SEARCH screen):
00 22 00 39 00
4. Important! ..... now, you need to find the second occurance of that string, so select Search again and this time choose "Find Next Down" from the menu.
5. This wil search down the code and highlight the second occurance of the above string.
6. Now simply change the '39' within the string to '38', press enter, then FILE and SAVE.
THAT'S IT !
You've removed the VC from that Aircraft Model. To reverse this action, simply search for the revised string (remember it will have a '38' now), and change back to a '39'.
DO NOT CHANGE THE FIRST OCCURANCE OF THIS STRING - OR NASTY THINGS WILL HAPPEN - YOU MAY WAKE UP WITH A HORSES HEAD NEXT TO YOU !
This works on around 90% of aircraft (including Defaults) - of course it is not required on add-ons like PMDG and Level D, that have their own ways of removing VCs.
But I've used it on add-ons like 737PIC and feelThere Airbus Series and it works great and dramatically improves frame rates.

A lot of Work
Maybe I am doing it wrong, but this seems to be alot of owrk, I thought one could simply open up the aircraft file, find the VC panel.cfg and remove it, does this have the same effect on frame rates as your solution?

In short - no.
Most add-ons don't have a "VC Panel.cfg", just a Panel.cfg that relates to 2D and VC parameters. Merely deleting the VC parameters (which control views not the actual occurance of the VC within the model) will not remove the VC and can lead to FS refusing to load and CTD'ing.
I am not clever enough to come up with the above on my own investigations - this advice came from some major FS developers via the old feelThere forums - I just referenced it as it's particularly relevent to cockpit builders.David R

Hi David
I search months now to remove the VC without success.
But with the tip you say is working for me.
The VC is removed for good.
And the lights in the night are working very well.
Now i have clear scenery to my left and right views.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

David
I tried it in FSX Kingair 350. Could not find that string. I also tried the other tip changing the name on the model.cfg. It worked to remove the VC side views but the lights are gone also.
Thanks
Dave

I tried too in the Dreamfleet 727. Though the string was there in multiple aircraft, I couldn't rid the model of the VC.
I tried the base file where the panel folder is also stored, and also the -200 variation, but no luck.
It must not work on everything ever published.Boeing Skunk Works

Lambis - I'm delighted this worked for you!
All - The instructions I gave apply to FS2004, they will not work with FSX.
BSW - Roger, this does not work with the DF727.
Can't you use the 727 configuration manager to remove the VC ? ...... or am I thinking of the LDS 767....
Basically, if a developer wants to stop people from removing a VC, it is easy for them to prevent this system from working - and that's what some have done.
However, for the vast majority of FS9 model - this will work if undertaken correctly.David R

You're probably thinking of the LDS 767.... it's configuration manager allows you to remove the VC.
