    Monitors

I am looking to buy a Dell 20 inch widescreen monitor. Does anybody know what the actual height and width of the display screen is, without bezels.
    thanks

    Hi Pete,

Assuming it's actually a 20.1" Widescreen monitor (most desribed as "20 Inch" are actually 20.1"), the screen dimensions will be:-

    433mm x 275mm

....certainly those are the dimensions of the screen of my HP 20.1" Widescreen TFT.

    Thanks David

Yes it is 20.1 I plan on using 3 for the outside visuals hooked to the TH2go and was not sure how much actual screen I would have. Thanks for confirming

    Pete,

I'm not sure TH2GO will work (well) with Widescreen monitors, as it's max resolution is based on using 3 x 19" standard (4:3) monitors.

    David
I have read the specs on the TH2go with 19 inch monitors being the max resolution, but I have been following the widescreen gaming forum and it seems that they have been getting good results with widescreen setups. I am hoping since they will be displaying only the outside visuals I wont notice too much stretching. I haven't purchased these yet so any information is welcome. Thanks

    I have a Dell 2007WFP (Ultrasharp).

The dimensions of the viewable LCD on my monitor is 436mm x 273mm (I measured it twice!) There is a then 1 mm bevel on the bezel and then the rest of the bezel.

On widescreen generally, a 20 inch widescreen is basically a stretched 17". I'm lucky enough to have a 20" widescreen and a 20" 4:3 screen. I much prefer the 4:3 screen because it has a larger viewable area and higher resolution (156000 more pixels!) 1600x1200 (1920000) - 1680x1050 (1764000). I'd run 19" at their native resolution rather than run a 20" WS at a non-native resolution to suit the TH2G.

    Thanks 2Kewl for the info
My problem I am trying to solve is my MIP will be approx 53 inches wide so I wanted my outside visuals in that general area. Due to space limitations a projector is out, so I was trying to make a small compromise with widescreens. If my information is correct, by changing the resolution it should make everything somewhat larger, but if I change the zoom setting too I should be able to have a better outside visual or at least that is the idea. The plan was to buy 3 20.1 widescreen monitors with the TH2go digital edition. I have not purchased these yet so if my information is incorrect someone please tell me or if someone has tried this would love to hear from you. The monitors would be displaying only the outside visuals [no guages or cockpit] and I can buy these for under $200 apiece. I do follow the 85% rule.

    TH2Go resolution

As I know, the Th2Go Digital Edition has max resolution as 3 screens at 1280X1024 (3840X1024) or 2 screens wit 1920X1200 (3840X1200 is also the highest setting). I don't know if the Bezel Manager works also with this last max resoluton. If you try, let us know.

PS : Wich graphics card do you plane to use with such high display ?

    Best Regards

I had some time (my first) flying with the TH2G and three 20" widescreens at the Oz Flight Sim expo today. It looked and felt absolutely fantastic, particularly with the TrackIR. I didn't notice any resolution problems with the widescreens so please IGNORE EVERYTHING I said about the 4:3 screens looking better!

    Peter,

I too am working within a very compact footprint for my simulator; doesn't get too much smaller . Fully enclosed at 60" x 60" x ceiling height. I am using a projector for the front visuals. It is a Viewsonic PJ358. It is 2000 Lumens, 1024x 768 native, and is VERY quiet. Sells at about $800....less bucks than three 19" monitors plus a 3HTG. It is designed for short throw capabilities .... more than MOST current projectors are ........... unless you go with the $2500 - 3000 type that are REALLY specialised.

I got the tip on that unit right here from others on the board. it was a GREAT tip.

With a single mirror bounce I will easily get a 58" wide projection. Without that mirror (direct projection from above and behind....still in the 60" box) I am getting 40" wide. I might also go with an enlarging lens..... and stay away from the mirror.

With this setup, for example, I can lean forward a bit and see more sky above the frame of the windscreen; FAR more realistic than a monitor.

So don't give up on the projector route just yet.
