Need info on my PC blowing its head off. Update to prior post.

    Men,

As you might of seen from my other post, my main server with fs2004 blew its brains out. Now it seems that from my repair shop, its the motherboard and not the graphics.

I had in this 4 year old case, an Intel Destop Board D875PBZ Pent 4 with AGP running fs2004.

The repair guy says that unless he can find one like it, I have no choice but to go to the new PCI E stuff. Is that right? I would pretty much have to rebuild the whole thing. I do not plan on using FSX right now, so does anyone have any thoughts. Its been a while since I was out PC shopping.

Of note, my 2 clients are even older ME units with just enough power to run PM clients PFD and MCP with TNT graphic cards.

Of course you all out there might say, upgrade to the newest stuff for all 3 units. Before I consider that, is there a easy way out first?

    Thanks

    Randy "screwed" Eskow

Upgrading all three to the newest stuff is the easiest way thru.

I don't 100% agree with this answer.. I am a sim builder.. IE I am CHEAP!!!! If the client systems you have now run PM fine, what makes you think they won't when you bring in a new computer for the FS server? I would get a new machine for FS. You need to decide if you want it to run FSX or not. Remember the bigger you build it now the better it will run FS9! Set yourself a budget for the new machine and stick to it!

    Bob,
I never said don't be cheap. He asked whats the EASIEST way and that was my answer. Of course, be sure and get the least expensive PC you can afford if thats the way you want to go, but frankly your PC is the basis of your sims performance. Spend a bit more and get the better one. Sometimes its better to spend more and have a better machine for a longer period of time. It saves you money in the long run.

Realisticly, you should be looking at a new PC about every 5 years, and each time go with the latest and greatest you can afford.

No problem Andy... I was just stating my opinion.. I run the junk for PM and it runs fine. Only point I was trying to make. Nothing against your answer!!

    Bob,

No problem! Of course thats why we are here, to get and give differing opinions on this stuff. I hope I did not sound as though I was scolding you, If I did, I'm sorry.

I am going with all new PCs

    Hi,

Anyone seen this motherboard. Do you think it will be good for my main fs2004 and maybe later fsX? Yes I am going to have 3 new PCs with XP.

Thats a nice board. I would go with this one instead myself.

It runs on DDR3 and is designed to be overclocked. Its a real screamer.
