    Airbus Type Controls & Trim

    Hi Everyone,

has anybody got the PM Airbus FCU FBW controls setup properly?

I tried enabling the Airbus Type Controls in the FCU options but it does not seem to work properly; sometimes it will not auto-trim at all and I have to keep the sidestick deflected to maintain the attitude, other times, the trim seems to go wild all by itself and starts to throw the airplane around....happened once on short final.....

I don't know what sensitivity settings I should use or even if my problems are related to them....

    Any ideas?

Also, is anyone doing manual trimming in their airbus? How does it work out?

    Any help, suggestions is welcome.

    thanks,
    Ryan.

Ryan, it depends on how you've got it set up. Are you using joystick port or an other method. PM works only with joystick port.

    Thanks Gents for the replies.

Matt, I am using a Logitech Attack 3 USB joystick, would that not work?

Bob, I will probably contact PM directly but I was hoping it might just be a problem with my settings and thus I could learn from the experience of someone who has it working.

    cheers,
    Ryan.

    Hi there,

I also tried enabling it ones after contact with Enrico stating it should work.
However , with my USB joystick set at maximum force to return to the center
and a rather large null zone I saw the following strange behavior. Also send to Enrico in logfiles but no reaction.
I'll give an example of what I saw, dont recall the exact numbers anymore.
Flying leveled, low speed , no stick input, trim settings + 2 UP. When touching the stick to initiate a climb the trim setting changed to + 0.4 UP causing the
nose to drop first and then react on my large deflection with the stick to compensate and climb. When letting go of the stick at level off alt again the trim was going to around 2.0 UP. Every time I touched the stick the trim was resetted to 0.4 UP. To descend this is not such a problem but it made an approach almost impossible.
    (model used A319 IFDG)

PS : I gave up on it and tried out with the demo of the remarkable fs communicator from robert fisher. This went well for the definition of the
fly by wire but I could not figure out how to get my throttle, push to talk, trim up, and brakes working since the joystick was moved to another computer then the FS computer.
Will continue when I got time with this system.

    Ryan, yes, that should work.

It's been a while, but I've talked to several airbus builders where as the auto trim works. It didn't' work for me because I was using Phidgets. When I rebuild I will use joystick inputs for my side-sticks.

ok, so it seems that some people can get it to work and others (like myself and Peter) cannot - without knowing why.

I'll email Enrico just to see if he can offer any advice - however its probably not something they will be prioritising at the moment.

Is anyone manually controlling trim on their airbus?

    thanks,
    Ryan.

Because my situation, being temporary, still is until I get it all back together I was using joystick buttons for trim up and down.

FS Communicator is the definitive choice for anyone doing an Airbus. It's not that much money for the license and it will allow you a ton of flexibility setting up not only your FBW so your bus actually flies like one, but also your throttle zones, reverse, sidestick priority features and autobrake settings.

All this and yes your auto trim too....

The program is very complicated but entirely worth the effort in getting to know it and inpliment the features... otherwise you may as well have built a Boeing.....
