Re: Boeing 727 HUD on eBay
there have been many upgrades for the 727, even complete glass cockpit retrofits. I didnt know a hud was one of them...but it doesnt surprise me.
Its a relist...it didnt sell a few weeks ago. I'm temped but shipping to europe will be shocking im afraid.
Didnt a member ask for a hud a couple of weeks ago ?

Re: Boeing 727 HUD on eBay
I thought it did sell. I was watching it and it ended at over $180US. Maybe a deadbeat bidder or he had more than one.
If I thought I could get it to work correctly I'd buy it myself.
Awesome upgrade for a 727. And yes they did retro-fit a few of the old birds with this. Not sure who flew them though. Fed-Ex maybe?Boeing Skunk Works

Re: Boeing 727 HUD on eBay
Very interesting. Thanks!
One thing I saw that I didn't like was the exaggerated neck-craning it looks like one has to do to use this sytem.
I think the folding mount could have been made a bit lower to coincide with the pilots line of sight that is stated in the manual. It would still fold up behind the #4 eyebrow window.Boeing Skunk Works

Re: Boeing 727 HUD on eBay
getting it to work, should not be TO difficult. I read an article a while back on how to get the military style HUDs to work. Basically, it said to remove all the guts from behind the optics and put in a small screen displaying the proper HUD gauge. The same sort of setup could be done here, except with a small projector mounted in the overhead. After all, thats how this type of HUD works in real life, with a projector mounted above the pilot's head (if you look carefully in the picture in the above posted article you can see where the projector is), just fancier. If I had the money and a spare projector, I would try it.
Just my input.Last edited by gokhotit; 06-13-2009 at 05:21 AM. Reason: spellcheck
I'm not replicating anything, because I like to fly everything.
