newbie looking to build first pit

Hi all ,
i am looking on building my first learjet sim for my self and my son as he is wanting to do the real thing some day so i figured i would give him some Encouragement.we just not sure where to start .any tips would be appreciated ..

Hi Phil,

Firstly, I would contact people who have already made a LearJet cockpit, maybe via PM.

I would then work out a budget; this is obvious as you don't want to overspend.

I would then research the various cockpit building companies (Opencockpits, FDS, etc); to see which one suits you. Do you want to build your own parts or buy them already made?

Look in the downloads section of the site. TONNEs of stuff there. Also, search the forums, plenty of info there too.

Hi Phin,

You don't say which Learjet you are interested in building but if you are interested in the Learjet 45 then there are a number of us building them.
There is an excellent forum dedicated to the Lear45 at www.hangar45.net. Register there and you will find loads of info and help. Also for software, check out flightdecksoft's Jet45 software and my Standby Gauges and crew warning panel at www.learjet45chimera.co.uk

hey guys thanks for all your help ..so quickly ..yes i am interested in the learjet 45 ,i will be looking at the whole project to be D.i.Y..im handy with electronics and stuff like that ..i was mainly confused on weather to start building the MIP and the best way to set it up ..i will look at the sites you all suggested and go from there .thanks again

Hi Phin,

A great way to start would be to purchase the basics first and build something that is relatively flyable, quickly! This will give you encouragement and inspiration to carry-on with such a time consuming and expensive project.

Purchase a control column, pedals, & projector (or multi-monitor visual) and get flying the Learjet, that way you can expand, build the MIP and then build upwards and outwards, slowly building the LearJet cockpit.

Good luck with the project and I hope to see your sim in the future!

G'day all

just a question im looking on starting out small for example just use my desk and a couple of lcd monitors ,i'm interested in making a small rack for my desk just to learn how things wire up and work .What would be a good interface card to get to do this and when i say rack i mean just with the basics a few led's & switchs to run stuff like landing gear ,flaps ect.once i get the general idea i will expand the project

Hi.

Basically. There is a really cool USB interface board that can be used for switches which is called the Leo Bodnar BU0836X. Buy this card and hook up toggles, switches and push buttons including pots. Maybe buy your self a piece of vero-board (a sheet with lots of holes in it) and experiment with banks of switches. Using FSUIPC will mean that you can do practically any assignment within the FS infrustructure. Learn switches before LED's. A lot of builders use the phidgets LED cards or the Opencockpits LED cards, but you will need to learn a little bit about SIOC to get it working with FS.

See how you get on with the switches cards, and then progress....
