Plastic molding throttle knobs
Hi all,
I've added another string to the bow so to speak with success in my first attempt at molding plastics! I decided to give it a go as a fellow Australian supplier let me down after failing to reply to several emails attempting to buy a set of B737 knobs. I have used the knobs I machined for Ken's B777 TQ as patterns for making molds and I cast the flap lever handle in polyurethane, it came out great so I will be adding knobs to the products list soon. Next I will be making molds for the B777 Pitch and Trim knobs, these weird shaped things took me 3 hours to machine and I don't want to do that job again! I will make the knobs available individually or in a set, any aircraft considered!
Cheers Gwyn

Re: Plastic molding throttle knobs
That's awsom Gwyn, you amaze me with what you are going to bring out next! Cant wait until the next surprise post, there's always some goodies on offer from you!
I have some idea's. There are some knobs for the A320 that are blimmin' expensive and hard to get hold of such as the A320 FCU knob set, if you made copies of these, then I'm sure these will fly off the shelf (especially if you are cheaper), also the A320 Spoiler knob / and Flaps knobs are non existant and no company sells them (so there's a gap for you). OC sells the whole assembly but not the knob. Just idea's but just shows the potential.
Top work my friend, keep it up!

Re: Plastic molding throttle knobs
Hi Alex,
I have builded my own flap and speed brake lever knobs from mdf. Lots of sanding, tweeaking, and starting over. Probably I dont have an exact
copy of the real one but they resemble. But just because they are not real copies I havent bothered to mold them (just did the parking brake)
However, after sending the parking brake to someone else he mentioned that my knob is a little bigger then the original.
Look at the photos of my pedestal, there you can see the different knobs.

Re: Plastic molding throttle knobs
I agree it is possible to spend time shaping from mdf, but if Gwyn has the ability to produce a batch all in one go, it will help a lot of builders!
I was on the phone to Chris @ cockpitsonic uk the other day and he assures me that there will be the full set of fcu knobs on sale very soon, but I guess they will be expensive!

Re: Plastic molding throttle knobs
But no fcu knobs, spoiler knobs or flaps knobs advertised on either site!

Re: Plastic molding throttle knobs
Hey guys cheers, I appreciate your comments!
I am always trying to come up with make it easier (and cheaper) products for our members. Post some pics of the Airbus knobs you need and I'll get onto it. If it's rare I'm there!!! Why not, this is a booming hobby! I've just bought a rotary table and chuck for the CNC so I might have a 4th axis up soon, this will be ideal for milling flutes in knobs etc and I just love the next challenge whatever it is. Airbus flap and speedbrake knobs are a good idea too, I will make those aswel. Keep the ideas coming!
Cheers Gwyn

Re: Plastic molding throttle knobs
Hi all, I've looked at the FCU knobs and these would be quick and easy to make. I would turn them on the lathe then use the cnc to cut out the knurling pattern on the top. They would probably need a split mold to cast them which shouldn't be too hard to arrange. Does anyone have dimensions of these knobs?
Cheers Gwyn
