My Double take Project Part I
Hi Guys...
Since I like to fly GA and also the 737, I decided on a "double take" low budget Cockpit.
Using: 2, 22" monitors for the outside (going to three pretty soon)
1) 17" for software instruments ( Project Magenta for the GA and Aerosoft.Au for the 737)
Double foam as the panel's structure, Saitek Auto pilot, backlit info panel and one instrument panel.
GoFlight's gear and flaps and two switch panels as well as two panels from DesktopAviator.....This is part one..
Part II will be a wood/foam cockpit enclosure coming up.....
As it was...
Work starts..
Moving along..
About 75% done..
GA with Project Magenta instruments
GA with Piex Instruments
737 Aerosoft.au instrumentation..
I should have all done by the end of the month with the "bogus" cockpit enclousure, as I said above it will be wood
covered with foam sheeting but am still thinking how to paint the foam or cover it..hummm, will see.

Looks good, you certainly have all the parts there for a brilliant flight and certainly plenty of steps away from having to touch that mouse or keyboard!
Best regards

Looks cool and still modular
. Save some of the scrap foam insulation when you make your shell. You can then test the paint on it. Solvent free paint would be a good idea as solvents will eat the foam quite rapidly. I don't know if there is a treatment you can apply to the foam prior to painting to prevent that but it's worth a look.
You should take a look at this guys stuff Sim Samurai. He built his simpit with the same multi-aircraft design in mind as you are thinking.
Best of luck with your project.
Cheers

Re: My Double take Project Part I
Hi,
This is what I use to line out my cockpit. It is the material that is to used line car boots or speakers.
It works an absolute treat and I used spray adhesive to stick it on.

PS. Ronson - remember the thread where I was asking advice on what to use - well that is what I come up with and it is perfect. Easy to work with and sticks done marvelous.

Re: My Double take Project Part I
Hi guys...
Thanks for your nice words I appreciate them very much. I was told at the hardware store I can paint the foam covered shell with "any water base paint" so any house paint will do...I will do it grey. Am at the office now but a carpenter friend came home at 6:00 AM and started building the shell, he is there now cutting wood and screwing it together, I will get the 10 or so foam boards at noon and should start cutting and placing them over the weekend.....IŽll place some pics. Am really happy with the project and hope to enjoy it a lot....Will look into the materials you guys mention and also the site, thanks.
