My 737-300 sim progress pictures

Well i have progressed a little more on my 737-300 project now. Got some more real engine gauges for Christmas and have them interfaced and working great. I have theFlaps, Vibration, Oil Temp, Eng2 Epr gauges working now along with all the other analog/digitals i had working. Next will be fuel flow and oil pressure. In the overhead (not shown) i have the real AC power meters working as well as the real APU Egt gauge and real dual needle duct pressure gauge. I am using Prosim System software, Projectmagenta for the EHSI and EADI, MCP and CDU. The throttle is out of a 737-300 so it is correct. For interfacing i am using mostly OC stuff and one card from Leo Bodnar for the axis inputs. It is very enjoyable to fly in it's present state but as usual, i am constantly updating and upgrading.

I bought the front 12 feet of so of a 737-300 last summer, and have the ambition to make it into a full 737-300 sim, or possibly a -200.

I knew going in that everybody else is doing NGs and nobody is doing anything at all commercially for the Classics. What I didn't know at first (I'm still just trying to feel my way into this) is that the Wilco 737 PIC probably won't work as a base model, as there are no known FSUIPC offsets to get to all the bits of info that I'd need. And the 737 PIC is about the only choice there is for a -300.

Now I see that you've accomplished a lot of what I want to do. I read that you used some PM bits and also some pieces of the ProSim package. That baffles me, because I thought they only were into the NG series.

Also noticed that you've succeeded in interfacing quite a number of real instruments, which I suppose puts you in the mastermind category. One break I got is that I've made a deal to buy a full set of 737-200 instruments from a "Flight Training Device" which I take to mean a certified simulator but without motion. In any event, these instruments are not real, they are servo-driven, but look exactly like the real thing. Will be much easier for me to figure out how to make them work, hopefully with OC servo motors cards and SIOC. These will work for either a -200 or -300 -- biggest difference would be that the ADIs and HSIs would be surplus in a 300 being replaced with glass PFDs and NDs. EPRs surplus too; the CFM-56s use N1 for setting power.

Anyway, if you can give me any pointers whatsoever that would help me lay out some base as a starting point, I'd would appreciate that very much. I've got myself partway dug into a hole and hope you can help me out of it. When starting something that's completely foreign to you, figuring out exactly how to begin is usually the biggest obstacle.

Doing a -200 initially with an open mind toward a possible changeover to a 300 in the future -- after I've hopefully learned a lot more -- is a viable option. The beauty of doing a 200 to start out is that all the complications of the FMC, EFIS tubes, CDUs, and the MCP are all taken out of the picture...

There are a few classics out there and when I was doing my 737NG I always thought that I would like the next one to be a 737 classic. Alas, now I'm flying smaller birds but I hope you fare better in that goal Dave. Rob's is coming along nicely.

Thanks for those words of encouragement. Until I can come up with some firm foundation plan for a -300 (or 200), I surely need all the encouragement I can get. Maybe I should say "if" I can come up with some plan....

Dave, there's a guy I know in Grand Cayman building a -200 that's 'quick convertible' into a -300 EFIS. His job often takes him into Miami. You should try and meet up for a chat!
