GA Autopilot using GoFlight GF-46?

I am trying to figure out what is the best way for me to have an inexpensive autopilot for my C172 simulator. I know that GoFlight offers the GF-46 Multi-Mode Display Module that has some of the functions built in with a nice display. I have 2 GF-166 Versatile Radio Panel Modules and a RP48 2" Tall Panel Module. Is anyone else using it as an autopilot or have have suggestions to what other options are available without breaking the bank?

Use the GoFlight config utility and program the 8 buttons for the various autopilot functions you want and use one of the rotary switches for setting VS. Should work with no proplems. They are just buttons and switches you can pretty much program them for what ever you need.

I concur with the suggestion to go with the RP48. It has no display so to speak (for the rotaries), but this is more realistic for the aircraft you're simulating.

I would stay clear of using the Multi-Mode display for this purpose. A friend of mine set his up with about 20 different functions and I'd frequently end up crashing the plane while trying to page through to the right one. Not a good choice for what you want. Much more frustrating as an autopilot, but excellent for pressure, decision height etc.

Thanks for the advice. I was also looking at the DeskTopAviator.com autopilot panel model 2020 - The big downside for me is the silkscreened LCD readout. I would like to have something that I can visually see what HDG and ALT I am setting. Any work-arounds for this?

If you want readouts, you should consider the Go Flight MCP (not pro). http://www.goflightinc.com/order/pro...products_id=41
It's a lot less money than the Pro and takes up less space, but has all the functionality you will need for your aircraft.

I have a 'Pro' I can sell you for the cost of the non-pro. However I don't think it will look realistic for what you want, and will have lots of functionality that is superfluous.
