Re: Auto radio tuning?
Hi Paul,
Just for clarification.
On a real life B744, the only way to tune your nav radio's , is via the
NAVRAD page of the cdu's.
Voice radio's are tuned by one of the 3 voice radio units.
The tuning of radiobeacons is a very complicated progress.
The FMC is using a autotuning of random beacons for position calculations.
These has nothing to do with an enventually autotuning of beacons necessary
for the routing in the flightplan. Same for approach or take-off
procedures.
You also have autotuning of the ILS freq for exemple when certain parameters
are met.
Finally the crew can manually select every VOR of ADF / ILS they need or
find necessary.
So, you see, much more complex than just an autotuning of the beacons in
your flightplan.
If this is the case in a B738, I don't know, as here the technic is must
older and more related the older B737 for compatibility reasons. It's
certainly working the same way in B767 or B777.

Re: Auto radio tuning?
Thanks Michel,
I'm not familiar with the 747, but will now have to get my
737FMC handbook out and clarify the situation here!
From memory, there's no radio page in the 737 FMC, and all
tuning has to be done through the NAV radio panels, but there
may be some options in there that I haven't seen.
