Project Intruder
Greetings all,
Here are some pics of my rig. Right now it is modular, so I can get it around. I have been working on the Pilot's console for some time now, the stick has been my latest addition. I ripped apart a MS FFB 2 joystick, used the motors and PCB's and went crazy. The forces need some work, I need to find some http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l1...h_100_1728.jpg

RC motors to replace the pitch motor. I made the upper assembly much too heavy, but wiith some work I think it will do fine.
Enjoy, Christopher

Really nice work Chris. I can't wait to see it finished.
When I flew 'Back to Bahgdad' I had built a setup like that for the F-16. Very crude, nothing worked (except the throttle), but it was pretty neat at the time with Thrustmaster controls. This must have been about '96 or '97.

Yes,, very nice work .
I built myself an elongated stick a couple of years ago with a Sidewinder FFB.
It was too heavy and the throw was all off so I had to shorten it up quite a bit.
Still use it and the throttle quadrant I built using an old joystick board for flying IL-2.
Doesn't look pretty but it works great.

The work you have done on that stick is amazing. Great job.

Awsome work.
Awwww Craiso man I feel like I actually need to swear thats so good.
I've got a torn apart stick too problem is I didn't know what to do with it.. till now that is. I want to combine it with a Cougar. I see you haven't used the pots out of the MS stick. Have you also combined two sticks?
what have you used as bearings? did you leave the MS optical pots attached?, do you mind if I bombard you with questions?

Thanx all for the kind words. It seems that MS made the FFB2 just for someone to hack. I rewired the PCB's and put them in a box I got from Radio Shack. I found some RC car gears that fit perfectly to move the pots, and just made a sheet metal box to mount the motor assemblies. I will have to take some more detailed pics for anyone who might be interested. The reason I had to go with aftermarket pots is that I tried to clean the stock pots up a bit and used a chemical that destroyed them. I thought, well now that I killed my 100$ joystick I may as well integrate it into the sim. It works great for the most part. I think I wore out the motors with all the trial and error. I will be getting some high torqe, low speed RC motors to experiment with and hopefully that will get the return to center forces where I want them. I use FSForce with my stick, it is a great addon.

excellent. I'll look forward to the detail shots. I've already started building. I'm off to homebase for some other stuff tomorrow. I'll be keeping you informed.
Bill.

That set up is freaking awesome! Love it.

can you help me maybe?

I need some help with the small pcb inside the stick.. Do you have any idea what the SMD components are? I need to make a new one...

TriggerHappy,
This is a blast from the past. Funny thing is my rig has not changed much since I first posted. I don't know how much I can help. What joystick did you hack? I don't know what SMD is. Can you visually see what components on the board are bad, and what caused it to fail (power surge, shorted components and the like)? If you can, post some picks.
