Linked Throttle Levers

This is just a hypothetical question, it doesn't apply to anything I'm building, but it's been bugging me for a while.

A lot of aircraft (L-188, CV-580, Short Belfast, Transall, C-5, F-28, DC-6, Vanguard, etc.) have particularly wide pedestals and thus have dual linked throttle quadrants, one for each pilot. My question is, if I wanted to build a cockpit based on one of these, how would I link each lever to its clone?

On a related note, how would I do this for levers which are nowhere near each other, like in the cockpit of a VC-10 or a Tu154?

Maybe a mechanism like this - two shafts clamped on top of each other. Lever number 3 is half-moon shaped in it's
lower part.

That would definitely work, but the only problem I see is that with two of the levers offset vertically, the angle of the levers won't line up. This is why the concept bugs me so much, everything I think of just doesn't seem to quite do what the real thing does or doesn't work under certain positions.
