Airbus publishes second edition of EHS report

Following the first edition published in July 2002, Airbus is now publishing the second edition of its report on Environment, Health and Safety (EHS). The report, entitled “The Airbus Way – Environment”, is available on-line on the Airbus website www.airbus.com, and also as printed hardcopy in time for distribution during the upcoming airshow at Farnborough (UK) in mid-July.

The document is covering main aspects of environment, health and safety relevant to Airbus activities, both in terms of product and site performance. The report is underlining the Airbus commitment to its stakeholders, ranging from employees and shareholders to customers, passengers and authorities as well as suppliers and other members of society.

The latest Airbus EHS Report features in particular the sharing of views between Giovanni Bisignani, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of IATA, and Noël Forgeard, Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer, describing their vision for sustainable aviation.

While Airbus already operates on a high level of EHS standards, it will nevertheless continue working to further improve its performance. For example, in 2003 the first phase of an Environmental Management System according to ISO 14001 standard was launched, and global company certification is expected by 2006. By meeting ISO 14001 standards, Airbus guarantees that it has a continuous improvement process in place with regard to environmental matters, such as waste management, energy consumption, material treatment as well as emissions.

“Society’s demand for air transport is growing, and this must be reconciled with responsible activity that minimises the environmental impact of this growth”, Noël Forgeard said when stressing the importance of the Airbus EHS report.
