Ive never been to Japan but I believe its the japanese culture. Apparently taxi drivers and train drivers wear white gloves as well.

I can tell you from being stationed in Japan for 5 short years it's because; "If they HAVE to land it manual it would be considered work!?"

I think it is a cultural thing buddy! I've seen that before!! Yeah I inmagine myself flying the bus with Gloves?? LOL not me!

Dude! Forget about the gloves what is with disconnecting the Auto Thrust before the landing and the totally crappy landing man... LOL!! Sorry just an apreciation...

I was told by my neighbor who is a pilot , it was to keep "body oils" from marring the knobs and paint on all the panels and switches. He said the flightdeck of a 6 year old 767 looked brand new due to this policy which varies by airline and cultural in some places. He said that there are no smudges on any radio heads. He flies 747's frieghters to the orient
I wonder if Gloves-ON and Gloves-OFF are on the checklist?

Anyway mike, what's with you looking at Bus landings and procedures? ... Where's the 27 dedication all gone to :razz:
On a serious note, the RAF do this same procedure. And that's so as someone said the hand oils/sweat doesn't make your hands less effective on the controls. But i can understand in a fighter jet - i wouldn't see the need in a commercial airliner unless it is as you say to stop the cockpit's getting dirty, or some moral cultural thing.
I have to admit I fly with one glove on, after 4 hours the old palms do get sweaty so I cant blame these guys for doing the same lol, excellent video it really shows the efficency and professionalism of the two pilots and how they work well together.
