Fideling myself with backlighting of the old FDS MCP panel.
I used 5mm and 3mm leds. I see that the smt leds doing much better job.

See if you can add another smt led where the light not spreading evenly.
I thing this should do the work for you.

I know they stopped making the mcp's but is there anywhere you can still get one, maybe second hand.
