A new idea for backlighting?

Hey guys, i am thinking about building a sim, and how i would do stuff. The first thing that came to my mind was all the backlit panels. As far as i know, most of you have CNC's which do most of the work for you, but i thought of other idea. As most of you know, when making home made PCB's you can use photopaper and laser printer. You print the image on photopaper, and then transfer it onto the PCB using a hot iron. So... What i thought is you could take the plexiglass, print a mirrored image of your panel, and transfer the paint onto plexiglass. Now the text acts as a mask, so you proceed spraying the panel with grey paint. Once that is done, you wait till the panel is dry and scrape off the laser printed outlines. I'm not sure if ironing the photopaper won't melt the plexiglass or if the laser paint will stick to the plexiglass. Anyone has tried this?

Scrach that, i just fount out that any of those organic glasses would melt around 80-150 degrees C. So i guess there is no way this technique could work out.

Would something like this be helpful.
