First post with a big question

Hello everybody,

I have been following this site quit some time enjoying all the wonderfull posts. So I am really pleased to step into the forum.
I am flying FS9 from the beginning now and it is time to buy an new machine, I have read the topics on this with big interrest, dual core, quad core. One thing is sure, I will not buy a monster machine, prices for this is about 2500 €. And in a year or so this will be allmost half the price.
So for now I would like to build a PC that can handle things, using FS9 all the sliders up and FSX say, sliders half the way.

I am not an expert in composing things so maybe it would be a great help to a lot of people, including myself, if you expert guy's would post your computer specifics along with the results (FPS). If that is not being indiscrete. As you can quickly get lost in all the previous CPU-GPU posts a list like this woul defenitely help a lot of people out.
Maybe a separate topic administrators ? Just an idea.

Hi Ronny and welcome aboard. You're quite right... the topic is HOT, and I to am making computer changes and depending on information provided here.

There is so much information being thrown at us, it's hard to keep track or decide which way to go.

Hopefully in the very near future we will have as you've recommended. :) :)

Hi there, and welcome to the site.

Mine is strictly an FS9 system, but I'll post it for you anyway.

It's a modest, by todays standards, Acer running a Core 2 Duo E4400, 2.0 Ghz, 800 Mhz FSB chipset, with a 2GB L2 cache. Supported with 2 GB of ram and a 7200RPM drive. (This Core 2 Duo benchmarks higher than the Core 2 Duo E6600.)

Video is taken care of by a Sapphire ATI x1950 GT 256 PCIex16 card using GDDR3 and is connected to a separate internal 250W power supply unit.

Windows XP Pro is the OS.

No issues. Runs FS9 flawlessly. Best system I ever had up to this point, and way above what was available when FS9 was released. Would have been a top-of-the-line machine way back then if available.

I want to add an old experience i had before 7 years, just to say that sometimes, a GOOD and FAST FS pc is so complicate issue, because many parts have to work together to give the final result.

In November 2001, i bought my new P4 1.7Ghz system, with the top rated VGA GF3 8200 Deluxe, which it cost me about 480 euros, (only this VGA !!!!)
and..................
i had less fps than a cheap VGA GF2, with less than 120euros :mad:
Bad luck.....:(

As we all know, FS is not a common everyday game, but it has special demands to give us good fps, in a 3D multiplayer enviroment (online flights), with heavy weather, complicate sceneries and aircrafts.

So good luck with your research and when you will have your new system we expect your feedback!! :D

Well that is exactly the point of this post, I am sure that a lot of you guy's have a good computer setup with good results, surely not all supersystems but a good combination of all the hardware.
I think buying a quad core with the right CPU and GPU, not even the highest end of those, would give a very good result. The trick is combining them all together, so the more of you that can share setups, the more confortable I (and surely others) will get in selecting a system, so please do post ;)

If it will help i'll post what im using

Intel processor 45nm 3.4-GHz QX9650) four sticks of 1066-MHz DDR3 RAM totaling 4GB.
CPU is a Puget Hydro CL1 liquid cooler, the radiator connects to a large exhaust fan situated where a power supply would normally be.
Asus P5E3 Deluxe SLi motherboard
2 250 gig SATAIIs
1 160 gig 10,000-rpm Western Digital Raptor hard drive and a separate 1TB, 7200-rpm Hitachi hard drive.
GeForce (3)X 8800 Ultra graphics board stacked together in SLI mode.
18x Asus DVD-rewritable drive

And this is my main FS unit and im very happy with it so far. I have another 10 units assorted CPUs from my second FS CPU

Athlon 64 X2 5000+
(2) X Radeon HD 4870 (stacked SLI)
250 gig HD

P4 3.2 to auxillary CPUs P4 2.8 to P3 800mhz Hope it helps
