Airbus has opened a new maintenance training centre in Hamburg, Finkenwerder, for A320 Family aircraft.

Maintenance engineers and mechanics worldwide can access a wide range of training such as full technical JAR 66 courses for light and heavy aircraft maintenance, lessons for ramp and transit agents and general familiarisation courses. In addition Airbus will use the new facilities to train its own technical staff from mainly its Hamburg plant. Around 2,500 trainees a year can be trained in the new facilities.

The newly built centre covers approximately 5,000 square meters on two floors. It is equipped with several maintenance training devices, two mock-ups of auxiliary power units and twelve lecture rooms. The A318, A319 and A321 assembly line in Hamburg is in close proximity to the new training centre, which will give trainees a practical insight, and contribute to the overall quality of the courses.

”This new maintenance training centre in Hamburg underlines our philosophy to offer premium services to Airbus operators and also to be the number one in customer services,” said Patrick Gavin, Airbus Executive Vice-President Customer Services.

The customer base of A320 Family operators has increased significantly over the last few years. Today nearly 130 airlines are operating around 2,200 Airbus A320 Family aircraft. With more than 3,100 aircraft sold, the A320 Family is the best selling single-aisle aircraft Family of all time.

The new Hamburg training centre in Germany is now included in the Airbus training JAR 147 approval after a successful audit carried out jointly by German LBA (Luftfahrt Bundesamt) and the French DGAC (Direction Generale Aviation Civile) and is thus able to provide authorisation for trainees to carry out aircraft maintenance work.

The leading aircraft manufacturer with the most modern and comprehensive product line on the market, Airbus is a global company with design and manufacturing facilities in France, Germany, the UK and Spain as well as subsidiaries in the US, China and Japan. Headquartered in Toulouse, France, Airbus is an EADS joint company with BAE Systems.
