Hi Ray,

I am not sure where the panel fits in with this... in any case, please do
download the current new build I uploaded two days ago to
www.projectmagenta.com/updates.html

Ciao

Hi Enrico,
Just for information here.
I see that people are using the Aerosoft MCP B747 for a B737.
Please note that in B744 operations a descend or a climb always has to be
confirmed by pushing the ALT sellector after dialed in a new altitude.
Nothing may happen before.

Same for a speed intervien.

Just for info so that B737 and B747 aren't mixed up ;)

Ciao

Michel

Hi Enrico,

Just tried the latest CDU update and it works now but not the way Michel
explained for a B747. After selecting a lower altitude on the MCP, the aircraft
initiate a decend just after hitting the 'Descend now' on the CDU without
pushing the ALT knob on the MCP.

I do not know if this is true only for a B737 operation but it is already an
improvement.

Thanks,
Serge.

I think it is correct for a 737. Once within a certain range (50 miles?) of
the computed TOD I think any reduction of Alt on the MCP should give rise to
the DESCEND NOW option, and, in any case, if the option is offered it
should most certainly work when selected (no matter which aircraft model, I
should think).

The altitude override button on the MCP (which is an airline option in any
case on the 737) actually changes the altitude requirement for the next
waypoint so forcing a recomputation of TOD and, usually as a result, an earlier
descent -- though of course it could be a climb and a later TOD!

If that button is not provided the same thing is accomplished through
altitude entries in the FMC legs page.

I expect those here more expert in 737 matters will correct me if I'm wrong
on these points, but that is the way I understand it.

Regards,

Pete

Hi Enrico,

I only mentioned it in case it was a factor. I know you have many skills but

mind reading probably isn't amongst them ;-)

New versions being downloaded now and I will try a flight this evening.

Thanks.

On 737 after Descent Now is pressed the EXEC button lits. The descent
starts
AFTER pressing the EXEC button.. (Now Descent now initiates the descent
which is wrong for 737NG)

Themis

I'm happy that a solution for the T/D problem has found! I have changed
10-15 private mails with Enrico for this strange problem. (It was posted
public earlier but none had noticed at that time)

Makes sense, yes. I just said "if the option is offered it
should most certainly work when selected", and you confirm this, with
selection being pressing the DESCEND NOW LSK and then the EXEC.

As I said, I didn't think it needed the (optional) alt intervention button
pressing on the MCP as well -- I always thought that was basically a
short-cut method of changing the actual altitude constraints in the FMC's plan.
Thus its optional nature. Evidently it is different on a 747 though.

Pete

I was lucky to be in a 734-400 cockpit from LGAV to LCLK and the captain
explained to me that there is also another way to make the Descent now
option, exept this we discribed and Themis posted just before.

They are dialing a lower altitude in MCP and they just push the Alt
intervention, the result is the same, the a/c starts a descent with -1000
feet/min while is in VNAV mode and descending to capture path.
They just save to move the hand from MCP to CDU and press the DES page,
then
Descent Now option, then EXEC.

Anything you need from real 737-400 I can ask for you or read the manuals I
have.

Enjoy your flights :-)

I agree that we must not comfused these systems as there operate different.
I don't know if the software needs a reorganisation, by the means of
correcting something and messing up something else.. If the baselines are
correct then the enchancments are much easier...

T/D problem was something that make me lost many hours testing and testing
to see what its wrong with my setup. I remembered that it worked well
months
ago..
