Hi folks

just tried vr with the oculus dk2 and leapmotion with flyinside and all I can say is wow! what an experience .

The plan is to use my real Cessna 152 cockpit ,using all the real controls interfaced into fsx .
i would them wear the oculus headset sitting in the left seat of the Cessna and use leapmotion to
see where my hands are in the virtual environment .
i would hold and operate the real Cessna yoke and if I wanted to trim etc I could reach out with my virtual right hand which I would see in the headset and feel the real trim wheel ,same would apply to the radios and flap lever etc .
i use 3 tv screens around the windows of the Cessna for the outside view ,now there is no need as your
sitting in the exact same environment with the Cessna model selected in fsx -

i dont know if anyone has done this before with a real aircraft ,if anyone has I would be grateful if you could let me know how it worked out -

vr is definitely the future

regards
Dave

Dave,
Not a real cockpit but a real pilot with his sim using hardware similar to a real one. Read his comments.
The only thing with VR is resolution, how do you find it for clarity?.
Have a look at http://www.ontheglideslope.net/.

using a real cockpit with the real controls etc
but thanks for your reply -

Hi iwik

forgot to mention about the resolution with vr
I am using the Cessna 152 which is close to the panel gauges
I don’t really have an issue as my resolution as it is maxed out
in fsx steam using flyinside and leapmotion hands .
ive noticed that the pmdg 737 isn’t as clear because your sitting a bit
further away -

i too fly for real, just about at the end of my training ,which I do
in the Cessna 152 ,the Cessna sim is great for practice 😀

Thanks Dave,
I think there is a place for vr but i will wait till resolution increases but are curious to try one.
Hope it isnt to cold there at present.

Hi iwik

i thought it would be like a curved screen but it’s not ,it’s fantastic
the depth and space is just like sitting in the real cockpit ,
It’s totally the best feeling I’ve had in a flight sim .
i fly in the real Cessna and I can tell you it’s as real as it gets 😀
this is a wee clip of the real airframe I have

https://youtu.be/ErtjyhoNjPo

now i can do away with the TVs for the outside view

btw it’s freezing here in Scotland and non stop snow 😀

folks

Just found out a wee interesting fact
When using the oculus in vr sitting in the left seat in the real airframe ,you can have an instructor in the right seat ,he can see all the action by
Undocking and adding a new view in fsx ,not a virtual view as for the oculus, you make the new view a cockpit view which just shows the outside scenery ,move and resize this view on to the projector or tv at the front -
also using air manager to show the Cessna gauges behind the left monitor in the real airframe
So now anybody sitting in the right seat can see everything that the person is doing in the headset
