Hi all.

I've been looking high an low for a 4.3" TFT LCD 16:9 screen to use in my CDU.
The biggest problem is the price range and availabiliy in South Africa.
Do you think it is possible to use a "reverse camera screen" for the purpose.
Resolution : 480 x 272
Input : PAL / NTSC

It's quite possible to actually get it working, but the aspect ratio on these is usually wide-screen. This is the one I bought:

It is 5" and has a 'normal' aspect ratio. Which aircraft are you building for?

Thanx for the info.
You are right, the aspect ratio will be wrong.
I am building a cockpit for the Iris Simulations Pilatus PC-21.

If there is any way possible, try to see the screen from a few different angles (while it's displaying an image) before spending a lot of money on it. My biggest beef with LCDs is they often look bright and washed out. Darks aren't really dark, and light areas are "flat" and ugly. Now, I've seen some higher-quality LCDs that look better than others....the cheap Dell monitor I'm using for the instruments on my old sim is so-so, but the 5" LCD from a portable Playstation screen on my weather radar is HORRIBLE, especially in low-light conditions. OTOH, I saw some LCDs (I think they were actually OLEDs) on an F-16 sim last year that looked really good.

Of course, no LCD will ever look as good as an old CRT.........

You could try opencockpits. They supply the LCD from a PSOne. It can take composite video, but there is a mod to allow it to take VGA.
