Hello builders!

Planing to go for 3 LED Tv's to give me a larger and wider view "of the world"
But which system to choose between gpu and tv'sets!
a. Gpu card system.
b. Triple head2go.
if so, which editin.
c. Wideview, by Luciano Napolitano.
(3 screens is supported by P3D, but claimed hard or imposible to get it working.)

I shall follow this thread closely, for I'm sure there are a million different answers to each. Research is the key here and even after years of research, in the end you will still be left wondering which system to go with. Monitors...projectors...tripleheadtogo.. TrackIR.. multiple computers with multiple GPU's. warping, short throw..digital...WideView..what specs to go for for each element...the list seems infinite. There are long threads on every forum I've visited on outside views..forward views...and other multiple views.

I can offer a bit of info. If you go triple head, I would suggest the digital version. If you go with projector you would most likely want to go short throw'. Triple head I believe gives you an expanded front view over 3 screens. I believe Wideview gives you different views over multiple screens..and probably different framerates and each PC in the Wideview network would need an FSX liscence. It goes on and on and on. Good luck.

Projection is hard to beat, ESPECIALLY if you are going to have a full cockpit enclosure. A lot of guys use big TVs close to the cockpit (or inside it, in some cases), which is very handy if you're limited on space or want to make the sim mobile. But for me, having a fixed view right up in my face like that just destroys the immersion factor. It also makes two-pilot operations very weird, to say the least.

If you're not picky on image quality or resolution, you can get very nice older models for under $200 that will do 1024x768, or 1280x760. I still think a clunky old projector from the late 2000s looks better than a brand new high-res TV right up in my face. Your projection screen can be a professional roll-up screen, a cheap wood frame with a bedsheet over it, a painted piece of plywood, a shower curtain, a wall, etc. And with projection, you always have the option of making a CURVED screen (of course, you also need the software to properly distort the image).

Projection gets the image out in front of the sim, so you feel more like you're inside a flying object with the world in front of you. It also works pretty well for two pilots in the cockpit, even if you only bring the screen out 6ft or so from the pilots' viewpoints (this is about how far out my current 1-screen setup is, and the view doesn't seem "weird" from either seat).

For software, I'm from the X-Plane world so I can't offer firsthand advice for FSX/P3D. I can tell you that MSFS isn't really designed out-of-the-box for multiple, geometrically-correct screens. I would look into Wideview, as it has a lot of users and support, and seems to work well. Justin's F-4 sim is running three projectors and Wideview, and it is very sweet. My wife flew it for over 2 hours and didn't know where the time had gone. :)

Hi Ben,

Looks interesting but will it give two side views as three projectors would, or does it stretch the front view around 180 degrees?

hi nils
projector for front view and TVs for side views is the best
I've tried the triple head but the crabbing effect is not good
you can adjust the eye point with the projector to get the taxiway
or runway centre line through the left yoke if your sitting in the
left seat as it is in the real aircraft -
if you send me your email I'll show you some clips from my sim 😃
best regards

Thanks for all good advice.
Now it is time for me to creep into a corner of the Hangar and make some desisions.

Hi Dave,

Nice set up.

One projector and several screens for side views sounds like a great idea. What size screens did you use for the side views and what resolution did you run them at? Did you run the side view screens from a separate PC? I really like this idea.
