Looks like the next patched release version of ifly will have an active sky next radar overlay built into the ND -- would this be possible with jeehell's software suite?

Hi,

Support for that addon is not planned, I have oo much work to do on other systems before adding a weather radar.

Regards,
JL

Completely understandable.

Perhaps it it could be for consideration further down the line.

Hi JL,

One of the developers of AS Next on the avsim forum has responded:

"the data are provided in raw binary format (for both moisture/precipitation signals and wind shear information), using (at the moment) a specific SimConnect function. The documentation for this is included in ASN download (it should be at least). The actual imagery/interpretation of the raw binary data we provide is up to the aircraft developer. " - kterz

FYI --

Hi Jeehell, looks like REX will be releasing a free external weather radar -- not too sure if it would be possible to use this as an overlay over the ND in your program. http://www.airdailyx.net/fsnewsbreaker/2014/2/21/wx-advantage-radar-inbound

Looks like the PMDG 777 is also integrating with ASN -- http://forum.avsim.net/topic/438427-01apr14-pmdg-777-200lrf-feature-preview-wx-radar/

I am hoping the feature sets (weather data export) is easy to implement for the avionic suites and aircraft authors :)
I do not personally use ASN, but if more commercial software (and JL!) were to implement the weather radar, I would most definitely switch from OPUS.

---

edit -- looks like OPUS is also planning to have compatibility with the PMDG 777.

I have been in touch with Stephen (OPUS) and hopefully he can make available weather data FMGS can use in the future -- http://forum.avsim.net/topic/438650-weather-radar-implementation/

As discussed on the AVSIM forum -- the weather data can be extracted using the FSUIPC API, interesting.

"So, even though I really like Bryn's gauge (as a stand alone solution), I'd suggest any further developments (embedding to a 3d VC ND for example) to be made either directly using ASN API, or fsuipc API (using a late version of fsuipc taking advantage of ASN). This would be the best performance/memory wise. An intermediate layer will only make things more difficult/sloppy. " ktez (ASN)

Hallo everybody,
is there actually something planned in this direction for JH? That would be really really great. :D

I am using Bryn's Radar Gauge for FSX in combination with ASN ;-) Hope JL can build WX radar to FMGS in near future.

Looks great. Would be interesting if we could add some bleding or transparency with JL panel.

Will also be be looking forward to a JL weather solution somewhere down the line.
