View Full Version : SIOC not seeing devices

I upgraded my PC this week: Asus Z87 PRO MB and i7 4770K CPU. After I got everything up and running I started SIOC but my 2 USB Expansion Cards weren't listed under Devices. I checked the cables and noticed the led on the cards doesn't blink once as usual when I plug/unplug the USB cable. I plugged a jump drive into the USB slots I was using for the Exp cards and Windows sees them fine. I tried reinstalling SIOC but it didn't help. I've never run accross this problem when swapping boards before. Anyone have an idea what's causing the problem?

Hello Jerry.

Have you updated your Sioc.ini according to the new USB numbers?

Remember to use correct USB connector on MB as just a few of
them are USB 1.1 compliant.

USB Ports Intel® Z87 chipset :
4 x USB 3.0/2.0 port(s) (2 at back panel, blue, 2 at mid-board)
8 x USB 2.0/1.1 port(s) (8 at mid-board)
4 x USB 3.0/2.0 port(s) (4 at back panel, blue)

Have you updated your Sioc.ini according to the new USB numbers?

The device numbers aren't showing up in SIOC for some reason.

I plugged my 2 USB Exp Cards into a USB addon module that is plugged into one of the 8 x USB 2.0/1.1 port(s) (8 at mid-board). A jump drive works fine in them so I can't understand why SIOC can't see them.

Hi Jerry.

I’ve no clue actually.
What do USBCheck (http://www.opencockpits.com/index.php/en/download/item/USBCheck%202.0%20?category_id=22)tell you – any OC hardware showing up at all?</SPAN>

Jerry

OC cards are intolerant of some addon hubs etc. Have you tried connecting each expansion card directly into a USB port (not through your add-on) to see if SIOC recognises the card?

This wasn't an addon hub, just a plate with 4 external USB ports installed in a slot in the back of the chassis and plugged into 2 USB 2.0/1.1 port connectors. I didn't reinstall Windows7 after installing this motherboard, just installed the drivers and applications on the Asus disk. I wonder if that could be a problem. I will try USB Check but all the USB ports on the I/O backplate are USB 3.0 on this board. Thx for the input. I'll let you know what I find as soon as I get back to my cockpit this afternoon.

Jerry,

Are you sure you're at the latest and greatest from ASUS driver page (http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z87PRO/#support)
Seems some of the updates are quite new.

Jerrymc3

I tried all 4 of the USB USB 2.0/1.1 ports but not the 3.0. I thought it automatically checked for Asus driver updates but I will make sure. I'll call Asus tech support and see if I can get help from them. Otherwise I may have to take this board back.

After talking to Asus tech support I wound up exchanging this motherboard and reinstalling a fresh copy of Windows7. Dallas, TX was hit with a major ice storm Thursday night and I lost my electricity for 5 days and I just got back into my house last night. I installed SIOC today and I guess all that was for nothing because I'm having the same problem with the new board. Has anyone else tried using SIOC on a Z87 motherboard and been successful or had the same problem I'm having. I'm just not sure where to go from here.

Yes, they both work fine on a EVGA 750i FTW motherboard.

Hi,
Have you tried this free USBDeview (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html) utility to clean up your USB devices in your PC?

Jerry,
Have you tied Emailng o/c. Have found them helpful in the past.
Do you have another o/c usb card to try?.
As a long shot, if you can program another pic for the exp card and try it.
Reason I say this is that I have read at times that people have had trouble
getting cards recognised and have returned them and they were fixed.
Not always convinced that just because it works in another machine that
there aint a compatability issue with th MB.
I agree its a long shot.
Sorry I can not be anymore helpful.
Good Luck.

P.S Just did a quick search and it looks like some people have trouble with ext hd on usb ports on this mb.
It maybe or problem.

I downloaded and opened USBDview but I didn't understand how to use it to clean up my USB devices. I just clicked on enable for my devices but it didn't do any good. I left a post on the o/c forum a couple of days ago but haven't gotten any replies. I tried using Asus EZ Update to update my BIOS and now my CH Yoke, Rudder Pedals and Throttle Quadrant have quit working as well. Reinstalled Control Manager but my joysticks are still dead in the water. I've been building Flight Sim computers since 1993 and I have never had so much trouble with a motherboard. What is ext hd? If I don't get these problems resloved in the next couple of days I guess I will return this MB. Can anyone recommend a good Z87 MB that will work with SIOC?

Jerry,
Sorry, ext hd is external hard drive.
Have a look here and try the up date mentioned.

I tried the update and got a message box saying "Your software doesn't need to be updated". I hate to say it but it looks like the only option is to return this motherboard. I just wish I knew for sure that the problem isn't with all Z87 motherboards. Before I bought this board I was seriously considering the ASRock Z87 Extreme4 Socket LGA 1150. It is highly recommended by Tom's Hardware. Is anyone successfully using a Z87 board with SIOC? If so, please let me know.

I Tend to agree that a M/B change maybe the best option. It was on Tom's Hardware
forum that i read about some people with this board had the ext hard disk problems.
Sorry cant be of much more help.
Good Luck.

Old age creeping in. Should have been Cockpitbuilders.com
To use USBDview select Edit and select all your devices or those you want
to delete and then go to File and hit uninstall.

P.S Nick on simforums recommends this mb. He may offer
some suggestions.

I gave up on the Asus board, went back to Microcenter and got an ASRock Z87 Extreme4 LGA. Got everything installed including SIOC and my Mastercards showed up just fine. Relieved to know that the problem wasn't with Z87 boards in general. I'll be shying away from Asus boards from now on.
