Are you using a USB hub, if so, is it powered?.
Have you tried using different USB ports on the main computer?
Also, suggest you post your sioc.ini file

The MCP should be defined in this ini file accoring to the device id and type.

But if your computer wont find the MCP trough the USB if will nerver work. You will have to get the computer to fnd the MCP first, then it will get an ID number in te SIOC window, and you can continue to config this in file.

If your computer wont find it, try to connect it to anoter one and see if windows reqonize it.

Another try could be to unplug all USB devices and start with the MCP

fordgt40
04-13-2013, 04:48 PM
Try plugging the USB cable into the main PC and not the hub - some USB Hubs are poor. As Claus suggests, when the MCP is recognised, you then need to define the device in the .ini file, but first things first

Hi yes I am plugging it into the main PC and it does not work on other computers either, error code 43!

When you say that it does not work on other computers, I assume that you are not using a hub and that you are plugging it in directly into a different pc`s main USB port. If so, are you sure that the power supply is working properly and giving out 5 volts?

I assume that this is a brand new MCP, if so, then perhaps you should raise this directly with Opencockpits

Hi, are you using Windows 7 ? If so you have a known problem. Try running the next microsoft tool : http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9740816

If that doesn't work, download one of the following and run :
for x86 systems : Download Update for Windows 7 (KB976972) from Official Microsoft Download Center (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=2624)
for x64 systems : Download Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB976972) from Official Microsoft Download Center (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3689)

The last two updates require validation.

Henju
04-15-2013, 08:30 AM

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!!!!!

The error you're getting is the result of the so-called "low registry space" error.
Are you familiar with the registry ? If so you might try the following :

Open the registry editor, surf to :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control
Look for the key : RegistrySizeLimit ,it's probably not there.

So right click and choose "new REG_DW0RD", name it RegistrySizeLimit and give it the value 0xffffff and reboot your machine

Now comes the tricky part : go to start, in the search box type "cmd" , command prompt appears at the top of the search window. Right-click and choose "run as administrator" .Verify that the command prompt says c:\windows\system32>

At the command prompt type "sfc /scannow" and everything should be fine again.

Henju
04-15-2013, 09:45 AM
What do you mean "At the command prompt type "sfc /scannow" ? where do I put it? oh and when I do this do I try the update again?

tiburon
04-15-2013, 10:00 AM
I'm sorry, if you're not familiar with registry editing and the command prompt it's probably best not to tinker with it yourself. Maybe you can try and seek assistance locally. It's not that difficult to do , only a lot harder to explain. In the end there's nothing wrong with your MCP, it's a windows bug.

fordgt40
04-15-2013, 10:07 AM
It is wise not to edit the registry, unless you are very computer literate :o

Since this is also happening on other computers I suspect a windows update. You could try restoring your pc to a former date and see if that helps.
If you don't know how to do that, just google restoring windows 7, it's easy :-)

Hey guys just wanted to add I have the exact same problem with my windows 7 64 bit main frame and for the last week I have been trying to get it to work on my v2 opencockpits mcp pandp.
What I even bother a powered hub to no avail but it was a cheap ebay job so that could be a problem also.
I resolved my problem by plugging directly into. Usb port using a w7 64 laptop and networking this to my main frame by using sioc and lua scripts from Roark.
I will try some of the work around suggested here because I believe the suggestions are spot on.

I am not sure if this will aid your dilemma but it may give you another option to try. I had an OC Multi Radio that my W7 64 bit machine would not see. It would bounce in and out eradicably and or not show up at all, digits and backlighting would not work. My netbook and my old pentium would see it..but the big powerhouse wouldn't.

In the end it turned out that the W7 machine USB ports were all putting out just shy of 5v. For some reason the Multi Radio demanded to see 5v or it refused to show. I installed a separate 5v power supply to the Multi Radio unit and now it works quite well. On another forum it was mentioned that perhaps a bad diode was the cause. The unit now sees 5.17 volts at the card and the W7 64 bit machine sees it with out any irradic type behaviour and the unit pretty much works normally.

It might be an idea to see how much power the OC MCP needs and make sure that it's getting the voltage it needs, if not, it may act like my OC Multi Radio and not show up at all. As a rule most operate on 5volts but I dont have an OC MCP so you need to check your manual. Also, I found Miguel at Open Cockpits to be quite helpful. He's busy and he may take a while to respond, but he was very helpful for me.

slainte
04-22-2013, 07:54 PM
hanks birdyguy for such a quick response. I do have the mcp plugged into a 5 volt adapter but to tell you the truth it is old and beat up and not purchased from opencockpits. This could be a major part of the problem.
And what you described was exactly happening I would get Usb recognized on our end or two occasions on mainframe but then it would fail again.
Also I cannot get Roark manager software working even on networked laptop. Error comes up saying faulty side by side location etc. That is why I have opted to use fsuipc connection and lua scripts before I went insane or ended up in divorce proceedings lol.

Hi can you tell me the exact things u did for it to work?

fordgt40
04-23-2013, 12:45 PM
I think he just changed machines. You mentioned earlier that the MCP was getting power as some leds came on. That is not proof that the power supply is working or properly connected. The MCP can draw some power from the USB connection, sufficient to light some leds, but will not be recognised by the PC if there is no external power.

I am not convinced that this is a Win 7 problem, it sounds like insufficient power. Forgive me, but a few simple questions

The power supply plug is fully pushed home into the MCP socket?
Are you sure that the power supply is working AND providing 5 volts - do you have a meter to check this
Nothing else is hooked up to this power supply?

David

Henju
04-23-2013, 01:48 PM
Thanks But the LED's come on only when I have plugged my mcp into the socket, there is no lights when I plug it in without the power directly into the USB Hub, could there be a problem with the power supply? should I try another type of power? like a 5V battery holder with 2 2.5V AA batteries? or is this a bad idea and might stuff up my MCP? I mean every computer I have tried, all three of them says USB not recognized.... Eventhough they are all win 7 most people on the net are able to get it working with win 7 so....:?

Best regards

P.S. It says on power supply: SALLDA. 5.2V=1.0A

fordgt40
04-23-2013, 03:07 PM
I am having difficulty following this, as you said in post 17 that some leds came on with the power connected but the MCP not plugged into the USB. This is contrary to your last post. Could you please clarify what happens to the leds when

Power cable unplugged from MCP (not turned off at the wall socket), but MCP connected to main PC USB port
Power cable connected to MCP and MCP not connected to USB port
Power cable connected to MCP and MCP connected to USB port

Do not use a battery power supply, you would have to be very careful about wiring it up and getting the right polarity. I assume that your OC power supply is a universal one and provides 5 volts irrespective of whether your house has a 240 or 110 volt supply.

Do you have a meter so that you can check the power supply output

To be honest all this is pointing to a faulty MCP or power supply. However, your answers to the above will help

One other little thing to try is this. With the original software from OC for the MCP is the facillity to make a test. You can test to ensure all the led's come on. If they they all illuminate then you could probably rule out the power supply as being faulty.

Hi David,
Hope you are well.

You are right as usual  and I missed that post but with post 10, it was assumed that it was the usb connection that may be at fault. The usb issue seems to have been rectified so again it might be worth a try at the test to see if all the led's light up.

Gary

Henju

1. Nothing comes on
2.Some Led's Come on
3.Some Led's Come on USB not recognized

Sorry but I don't have a tester but I did connect a 5V led to the power supply and It worked fine. The folk's at Opencockpit's suggest to insert a "USB PCI into internal USB motherboard" Which I haven't Got a clue what there on about!

So I'm a bit tangled in thoughts, gee I expected it to work...

Regards

Henju,

The tester comes with the MCP sotware download from the OpenCockpits site. The whole download is very small so it is worthwhile doing to at least rule out any power or led problems.
The usb PCI that OpenCockpits are referring to is a card housing a number of extra usb sockets that plug into a spare PCI slot on your mother board. Not a bad suggestion if you know how to fit it as not only will it give you more usb access points at the rear of your computer it will also rule out any issues there may be with a usb hub (if in fact you are using one). This assumes of course that you are using a desk top computer as opposed to a laptop.

Down load the OC software to get the tester and if all the led's work after the test you can begin to look else where. It is prudent to get the basics out of the way first.

No I have run the OC test program I Thought he meant a voltage tester and no I am using a laptop

Sorry if I seem a bit not well quipped but it's gonna have to do for now with a laptop so what now?

What software are you using to run the MCP. Is it the software down loaded from OC? I know they say the MCP is plug and play but it does require a little input from the user. The sioc system that OC use is very good but does require some research and understanding from the user. I also find it difficult to get my head around so you wouldn't be alone.

From previous posts, it would appear that your power and usb connections are ok so there must be something else that has been over looked.

Hi Gary, trust you are well and enjoying sunny Spain :)
The issue here is that the MCP is NOT recognised by the PC when plugged into either a main USB port or via a powered hub, so reloading software etc sadly will not help

Based on the answers to my recent post it would appear that either the pc`s usb power supply or MCP`s power circuitry is faulty/inadequate. I base this on the fact that when the external power supply is connected then some leds come on, however, when only the MCP USB connection is made, nothing lights up.

If the MCP will still not light up, or be recognised via the USB on another computer, preferably with a different operating system AND other devices work on the same USB port, then it points at the MCP being faulty

Hi Henju,

If possible I would like to help you. Perhaps I could connect to your PC trough Teamviewer and see if I can
help that way ? I just helped another simmer this way, and we found a solution

Unless you have already tried it, the only other thing I can suggest is to do the following

Go into Control Panel/System/Device Manager and under view click on "show hidden devices"

Then delete as many USB entries as you can, particularly any "Unknown Devices" !

Restart the computer and let it re-build its USB drivers from scratch

This has worked for me in the past, but can be a little drastic!

Does it work in an old XP computer? From what I understand there are issues with OC devices, Windows 7 and latest Intel chipset.

If it works fine there try using a USB hub or get hold on a PCI card with extra USB ports. Also stay away from USB 3.

Henry try my suggestion above and delete all "unknown devices". Then unplug the mcp, turn off the pc and restart. Then plug back in the mcp

Thankyou but I already tried this method twice and no results, OC have just replied saying to downgrade to XP yet I hear alot of people still use win 7 for OC Hardware

fordgt40

Henry

It is a bit cheeky telling you to downgrade, unless they can categorically prove that it is a Windows problem and not them!
I do have a lot of OC cards running on Windows 7 all ok. But have had problems in the past with some pc`s (including XP), particularly with cheap powered USB hubs (D-Link seem the best) or front panel USB ports. These problems have always been resolved by either deleting the majority of USB entries in Control Panel, using a PCI USB board or changing hubs.

It would be worthwhile trying to find a XP machine somewhere and connecting your MCP to check whether it runs.

Good luck

Hello Henry.
We have two computers with W7 home premium 64 bits with different DVD versions (are the same without be the same, do You understand for differents implementations?) With one all work ok and with the other not.
All issues comes from W7 and it incompatibilities with some Intel hardware. The MCP module works fine on other computers based on W7 and XP, You canīt try with other computers like friends computers? Are your three computers with different W7 implementations or are the same?.
To all people: The 5v power supply is needed to feed the digits when the computer has not enought power, and it is not needed to be recognized by windows.
Thanks to everybody for helping Henry and us.

Hi David/Henju,
Im wondering if it is a hardware problem. I wonder if the id the MCP is reporting is suspect. I have read plenty
of posts of people having problems with cards that were not flashed and others which didn't work and these were
replaced by O/C and when received back all was ok. If Henju cant test on another comp then returning the item
maybe his best bet.

Hello boys.
Thanks for your welcome, we are too busy with direct OC support, but if needed we will try to stay here, anyway we are available on OC support mail: support@opencockpits.com.
I think is good idea to upgrade to W7 home premium.

No. I would focus on finding an XP machine to test that your MCP works ok. Or search the internet and/or microsoft knowledge base to see if their is a fix somewhere

David

Edit: I base this on why spend more money on something that has no certainty of success and you have not yet proven that the MCP is working ok. Unless OC can advise otherwise

Edit: So OC suggest you upgrade - hope it works for you

Sorry to hear you have had so much trouble with this. I just wanted to add my experience here in case it may help someone else. I had purchased an MCP that I was having the same the exact same issues with. Ultimately what I had found was that the power supply was subpar.... It was not putting out enough power to allow my computer find it. I had purchased a new power supply (6VDC 2000ma) and presto! Everything worked as advertised. All of the XP and Vista computers that would not find it originally are now all finding it.

claushansen

Agree ;)

Spent two weeks with problems rdg. hooking up 2 pcs. OC USB Output cards. Only one showed up in Windows and SIOC, until I also changed the power adapter. In this case a PC ATX power with 5V/6A. To drive all the LED's.

The card will return an error to Windows if the total power is to low

In my case I had the OC MCP ver. 3 ......... a 6V / 2000ma power supply is what they call for according to their web site. I think the MCP ver. 1 & 2 only called for a 5V power supply.

Opencockpits

Hello to every body.
Sorry for not reply before but our official support service is overworked after christmas holidays.
Seaiii You are in reason:
MCP V1 and V2 are power supplied with 5V 1 Amp.
MCP V3 is powered with 6V 2 Amps.
The V1 and V2 can be used without external power ever the pc has enough amps available but is recommendable to use external power because the 7-segment digits compsumes a lot of power.

Henri,
Just go and buy a 5v 2amp supply they are cheap, it will be the quickest way to prove it. If the supply is under rated then it will give the results you are getting.

I don't want to bust the MCP by feeding too much power in though. Although it is probably a good idea I'll try it out in a week when I'm back in the city.

Henri

iwik

Henri,
As long as your power supply is the correct voltage it wont harm your MCP. The more current the power supply can supply
the less chance it will fail to work.
To help you understand, when the power supply can not deliver the current your MCP requires, the 5v it needs drops and then the electronics fails and you get strange things happening like you are seeing.
Hope this helps.

Henri,
Most power supplies seem to have the dc style plug. You could even ask your local electronics store to make up lead
that mates with your pc power supply and has a 3.5mm plug on the end. If so just make sure it plugs into 5vand has the
tip positive.

Although I have got a model train Transformer it outputs 10v 3.5a, would this work?

iwik
03-27-2014, 10:03 PM
Henri,
Don't use the Train transformer as the voltage is to High. They specify 5v.
I looked at the video you sent me and it was other leds that were lit.
I really cant offer much more. A 2 amp 5v p/s would have been better test. However O/C only specify a
1 amp supply so they should know best. Not having one of those units makes it hard to help.
Maybe your best option is to send back to o/c.
Somebody may be able to offer other suggestions.

P.S If you want me to send you a 5v 2a supply(no Charge, got load of them here)
