Hi guys been on the site a while so thought i would share some pics of the sim,its took me around 18months so far nothing is interfaced yet but it looks pretty cool i think? going fot the wrap around 3 projector senario when i get that far more pics when i get time feel free to ask any questions, all construction is poldragonet overheads the MIP and everything else is good old MDF! got to love it. The TQ is homemade and based on a saitek tq underneath, then MDf and aluminium construction! cost me about £150 to make and it looks goodthanks guys.

Hi Stinger,
Looks like a great build, thanks for the pics, Did you get the seats recently? I like the way you adapted them :)
Also TQ looks great, really nice work.

the seats are from a nimrod and came of the well known auction site at £50 a piece! bargain, they now slide as i,ve made some rails for them and they move to the side for getting in and out due to the pedestal.thanks for the reply.

WOW, that looks badass! Do you have any drawings? How did you make the CB panels?
stinger
04-11-2012, 06:37 PM
no drawings all measurements are from the marcuspilot webpage, the cb panels are the sticker decal set from Poldragonet and me making over 500 holes! and using small nuts and bolts as cb's thats it really! thanks for the reply.:-D

Very nice build. Congrats! Are your rudder pedals homebuilt, or from a vendor?
Cheers!

Impressive job, I liked the way your cockpit door/wall completes the outside of the sim.
Can you elaborate on the TQ, you are saying it is home made using saitek?

65046505650665076508 here are some build pics of the tq, yes basically the saitek unit is inside! the left lever is the auto brake lever and the other 2 are throttles, the flaps where made as a seperate unit using a meccano gear and a pot.Any more questions please ask.

Very nice, you are quite the craftsman.
Not sure I have the skills to pull that off.

Thanks for the kind words i have a lifetime of carpentry behind me but i dont have a lot of spare cash!,who does these days? so if i can save money by making it i will.my hole sim has only cost me about $5000 so farwhich is prety good.

Hi Stinger.
Very impressive. I am also going along the same route of constructing from MDF and you have really inspired me and by the looks of it, others too. Your woodworking skills are very good. I have just finished building my workshop so I will hopefully this year get started on my TQ. Your idea of incorporating the Saitek unit is brilliant. I was wondering how I could do it with mine - problem solved. The yokes look pretty good as well.
As you mention, we are all on a tight budget these days so if it looks right, it is right - at a fraction of the cost.
Hope you don't mind but I have saved your pictures for future reference once I get my back side into gear.
Tip - it is less formal if we can use your first name.

Norman,
Two further questions if I may. Whilst you appear to have 'beefed up' the saitek TQ levers with ali, are the original plastic items strong enough to house the throttle levers and reversers? and secondly, would you mind sharing the details on how you wired and constructed the flaps side of the TQ?

Hi Gary, the saitek throttle arms are as you say beefed up with ali, i managed to sandwich them with the wooden tq handle sliding down over the saitek ones. Put ali everside and then sandwich them so as they move forward/backwards they are a tightish fit to the surrounding curved sides. There is a little play but acceptable. The wooden tq handles then have a tiny bolt through to hold all in place. When you lift the reverser it simply actuates a micro switch to do the job so no real pressure there.I had to use a sub miniture micro switch to get it to fit. The flaps lever has a meccano type round gear bolted to the flap arm and a smaller one fitted on the pot below,it is then sprung loaded as you lift the flap lever, and then this moves the pots position as the lever moves. Very simple really i will then in fsuipc set the parameters as the pot is moved,i think? hope that helps.

Excellent. Thanks for the reply Norman. I now know which way I am heading.
I would find it very hard to justify an all singing and dancing TQ to the good lady but I may just get away with some MDF and ali.
Please keep us all updated as to your cockpit progress.
Cheers Gary.

Hi Norman. I was going through some old threads.... have you made any progress ??
stinger
11-02-2012, 03:25 PM
yes its up and running on 2 computers and 1 projector using prosim lots of teething problems at the mo and i'm relying on a sim collegue to help with computers, calibration etc.. trouble is he lives about 45mins away so can't just pop round when things go wrong its very frustrating i can build anything i'm just not great on computers partly why i took on this challenge.

Thanks for the update. Yes computers can be a challenge.
My problem is the opposite, I am not too skilled building and assembling the shell, MIP etc, but have no problems
using the computers.
Good luck with your project. Post a pic or 2 when you get a chance.
