View Full Version : Freeware: Electronic Flight Bag Boeing Style for FS9, FSX and X-Plane

03-30-2012, 04:20 PM
I'm working currently on a Freeware Stand-Alone Electronic Flight Bag on the Boeing 777 - style for Fs9, FSX and X-plane. The current state can be seen here.

A first Downlod will be available in 8 to 10 days. At the moment I am working on the MovingMap and the TCAS - system.
The program can be used on the network or Single-PC and is optimized for touchscreens operations. It can be used also in the Homecockpit.

Suggestions and criticisms are welcome.

I'm looking for more details of the original EFB by Boeing. For the 757, I have found a manual for the 777 only some images and YouTube videos. Does anyone have info or links, vieleicht also a manual, training video or something similar?

Looking very good, pity its not for the 737....
A few spelling mistakes, when you chose the airport you spelt unknown as unknow.
You also spelt length, frequencies and preview wrong on some screens.

03-30-2012, 07:31 PM
It looks really good, even though im not a heavy metal flyer im sure i could put it to good use.
Maybe it could be adapted to be more of a general EFB. Keep up the good work, its really
has potential.

03-31-2012, 02:59 AM
"...A few spelling mistakes,..."

Thank you. Have corrected it.

"...adapted to be more of a general EFB..."

The EFB is planned mainly for my 777 cockpit. Therefore it is based on the original Boeing EFB.

03-31-2012, 04:53 AM
Wow, this looks very nice Peter. Have you thinking to make it work also with ipad? Is it possible to use via keys, if no touchscreen?
Keep on good work.

03-31-2012, 05:02 AM
Ipad version isn't planned also no-one android.

Without touchscreen the program can be used with the mouse or a touch pad. There will be keyboard and joystick support to be able to use it with external hardware (Bodnar, OC cards and more).

03-31-2012, 05:17 AM
Peter, this looks very promissing. Building a 737 myself and having acquired 2 10.4" TFT screens (800x600) I was planning to use one as an EFB screen (the other one will be lower EICAS).
At what resolutions are you thinking for this program? When you want to use a moving map all the (downloaded) pdf charts will have to be calibrated. Any ideas about that? A must have to find your way on large airports.
BTW, love the piano music (what is it?). Is this an extra option for long flights?

03-31-2012, 07:14 AM
There will be keyboard and joystick support to be able to use it with external hardware (Bodnar, OC cards and more).

Great, am thinking to change my plan of using Ipad :D

04-12-2012, 05:58 AM
Great and usefull idea.

When you have a pre-release ready, i'm looking forward to test it.

04-12-2012, 10:49 AM
I have made a little web page for the EFB though in German. There is a first download also. A really more useable download can be found on this web page as of next Monday

The program is in comparison with the above posted videos already considerably improves. The Relase is planned for the first week in May, I have vacation there.
There also will be a version in the Tablet PC style

Danke Peter, gut gemacht.

Cheers Norbert

04-21-2012, 12:44 PM
Very nice!

As a b777 builder I sure am looking forward for the update on this.

Have tested the 0.6 version and it is looking real promising.
Placed in the proper place in my b777 cockpit it fills a big ugly gap :p

Keep us updated!

A manual in English comes in the next days. The Airbus/GA Version (iPad-style) is online as of tomorrow afternoon.

Very cool, Peter
Gouing to be a 'must to have' in any simcockpit

04-27-2012, 02:54 PM
Hi Peter,
My eyes lit up when i saw GA. Had a lok at the video and noticed the Checklist
for the Baron58. You have just made my day. The EFB is amazing, have a spare
touch screen waiting for a task, its just been found . Look forward to the Airbus/GA release.

04-28-2012, 11:19 AM
The GA and Airbus Version of the EFB 0.7 is online

The Download is here http://boefb.webnode.com/

This is an update. BoEFB must be available. The two files hPad.Exe and Pad.Exe simply copy in the BoEFB folder and then starting BoEFB, hPad or Pad alternatively.

BoEFB is the BoeingStyle EFB, hPad ist the Program in the Video above.

For running on Ipad or Android Pad (with "Air Display") is the Pad.Exe (frameless, maybe for Laptop to)

http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/8718/padn.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/842/padn.jpg/)

Made EFB Checklists:
preparing a new folder in the data/ECL folder who is called like the check list (PMDG 737 or WILCO A340 or ...or...). Making simple .TXT files in this folder.

For every checklist (Befor Starting, Starting . . . ) making a TXT of one's own and typing in the data or c&p from the original HTML Aircraft Checklist. The first line starts normally. All other lines must start with @ . At most 16 entries per check list are possible; only 16 buttons are available in the EFB. Please split longer checklists (Starting 1, Starting 2 ...).
Writes the names of all the checklists into a Main.TXT-File without the .TXT but with comma between the names and without Enter. All name must be in a single line. like: Bevor Starting,Starting 1,Starting 2,Taxi,

Have a look at the sample checklist for the FS2004 default B58 in the \Data\ECL Folder.

04-29-2012, 08:15 AM
I am not able to see the documents in \ DATA \ DOCS or see the integrated file browser in the system.

Is the above suppose too be working and ready in the beta v.0.7?

I get the following message when clicking the “Documents” button:

04-29-2012, 08:45 AM
Have you installed the Adobe reader? Where exactly does your BoEFB folder stand and which Windows do you have?
I cannot cause the fault. I get an empty screen but no error message even if no files are into DATA/DOCS. I suspect this your Adobe reader is faulty or too old.

I had written it on the web page but only in German:
For the PDF shows the Acrobat Reader is necessary. However, he doesn't have to be the standard PDF reader, installed only.

Have unfortunately forgotten to write this also here. Excuse me

04-29-2012, 01:08 PM
You have nothing to excuse as I’m more than happy that someone is taking time to make this application that I have been missing in my B777 sim-cockpit.
I’m the one to be sorry as I guess there to be some problem on my part, but I really do like what I see so far and love to have it working properly :-D
Everything else are working properly.
Finding the fault might be of use for you and others, if one can determine what is wrong on my side.
The BoEFB is on the root of my C drive: C:\BoEFB\....
I use the Acrobat Reader version 9 (and have run a “repair” on it, just in case) on a 32bit Windows7 (newly updated) on a laptop.
The entire fault dialog as follows:

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

In the hope of someone to be able to "translate" / desiffer the above :???:

04-29-2012, 01:34 PM
I am going to be picky again with spelling ;)
You have spelt "Descent Planner" as "Descent Planer", also "Hide delete button" as "Hidde delete button".
If I had a hat I would take it off and doff it to you for coming up with a fine piece of software.....

04-30-2012, 01:26 AM
I will remove the Adobe Reader X (10.1.3) and install the version 9. I can possibly reproduce the fault with that.

@Allan: Again thanks for your corrections. This helps me very much. Will correct it. I am grateful for every reference to spelling mistakes.

I have a week of vacation as of tomorrow, I will deal with the problems there. The EFB is losing the connection to the simulator at the moment certainly after some minutes. However, I think to have recognized the problem. The project has got considerably more complex than planned. Men and her play instinct . . .:oops:

04-30-2012, 04:16 AM
Have a nice week, just returned from Germany for a short visit to Trier. Hope you'll have better weather than we had.

04-30-2012, 08:18 AM
My problem is solved!

DE installed the Acrobat Reader 9

Installed Acrobat Reader X

04-30-2012, 10:16 AM
@ JWS: The weather shall get correctly good. Have a barbecue in the garden

@ Per: Thanks for the quick reply. Will increase the system requirements to Adobe Reader X. This gives more time for barbecue . .. i mean programming ;-)

Project BoEFB still lives. ;)
Some small progress as well as newly revised code.

Download of the version 0.9 beginning of September 2012.

08-27-2012, 11:34 AM
The next step with a survey of all available functions. Download of the version 0. 9 will be available at the weekend.

Form the V1.0 the BoEFB is designed for hardware use. This means every BoEFB button can be assigned to a joystick button. The BoEFB frame will be disconnectably, for cockpitbuilder want to build a hardware frame (like me ;) ).

09-09-2012, 03:56 PM
Next Step, the download comes later since I can see no more VB at the moment. The Project has got so complex by now. I hadn't expected this. Therefore only small progress, sorry.

More on Bo EFB (http://boefb.webnode.com/)

09-10-2012, 04:26 AM
Progress however small im sure is appreciated by all. Sounds good that one will be able to assign hardware buttons.
Keep up the great work.

09-23-2012, 01:50 PM
Again one (very) small progress, a system monitor on the Status side and progress in the hardware assignment.

I also have translated important notes into (Google)-English ;) on the Project-Page BoEFB (http://boefb.webnode.com/)

Hello Skino,

An amazing contribution to the Flight Simming community. Thank you so much for your efforts. I can see myself using this tool for a long time to come.

Very cool and needed soft

I wont alsow to thank you for sharing your work with us

02-12-2013, 03:29 PM
I just downloaded this magnificent software, planning on running it on a 768 x 1024 touchmonitor, portrait mode. I have two more monitors on this computer, without touch.
My problem is, it opens across two monitors, half of the EFB on each monitor, and I cant drag it or in any way place it on the correct monitor.
What can I do?

02-12-2013, 04:04 PM
Click on the green "BoEFB Freeware..." show/hide the Windows Border.

02-12-2013, 04:13 PM
Peter, i was thinking to use one client computer with two normal 10,4" 800x600 lcd screens. Can i use two EFB addons in same computer and have separate key commands to each, or only one EFB per computer?

02-13-2013, 02:25 AM
You need Screens with 768x1024 at least for the EFB. The EFB works with Touchscreen or Joystick or Bodnar or other Joystickcontroler but no Keyboardinput. You can run two or more EFB on the same PC. But each uses its own database. I have build a Copilotversion thats have a common database with the Captn.-EFB.
This weekend I upload a version, which is still unstable in many areas. Only for the try. The Copilot version is part of it.

02-13-2013, 07:32 AM
Ok, sounds really great, thanks Peter.

02-14-2013, 01:36 PM
The first officer EFB is at the same level as the Captain EFB. Each EFB shows whether the other is online.

New download available under BoEFB (http://boefb.webnode.com/). Please read the description on the home page.

Thanks for the download. Is there a way to move the main screen about or resize it. Mine seems to always be stuck in the same area. I have only one computer at the moment.

02-18-2013, 03:27 AM
Hello Ed

It is not possible to resize the EFB but you can move the program:

http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/6889/movevr.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/651/movevr.jpg/)

Click and hold the green button and move the EFB. Then go to the System page and click Save to save the new position.

I explained again that on the Web page, as it is often overlooked. Anleitung / Instructions :: BoEFB (http://boefb.webnode.com/anleitung/)

02-18-2013, 05:25 PM
You're right of course. I need to be more observant. Thanks.

A new feature: enroute wind forecast (real world)

Very nice addition! Thanks for sharing your time and efforts on this. Your EFB is a mainstay in my cockpit

I second that. Fantastic software. You have a beautiful dog as well. Many thanks again for your contributions. I'm really beginning to love this electronic flight bag.

03-25-2013, 10:02 PM
Such a nice piece of software!!!

I have made a couple of checklist, you can include them of course if you want to: http://www.anderssamuelsson.se/filer/MOD_ECL.zip

I've noticed a couple of things too. 1) When trying to shut off the voice in the "Ipad"version it keeps on talking. Not sure I have the latest correct version, My german isn't very good :)

2) I tried adding some charts which worked lovely until I came across an aiport with many charts. More than 14 approaches for instance. I tried to solve it by adding some folders under the airport, i.e. ILS and ILS2 This worked pretty good but then when I pressed the STAR button nothing happened. It seemed as if the number of buttons (ILS, APPROACHES, ILS etc) could be increased but only a fixed number of them could actually be viewed, that is the six first.

But this is still an amazing piece of software and I am really happy you have made it available to the community!

03-26-2013, 09:56 AM
Thank you for your nice words.

Unfortunately, the link works not.

The ' iPad ' version is very old. I've put them online to get feedback. When the software reaches the next level comes back an Airbus (iPad) version.
There are still many bugs in the current version but I'm working every day and it will slowly but surely better and more stable.
For the chart database, I work out just a solution with 2 additional buttons, so large amounts of data can be divided. Just as at the long checklists. The project has got considerably bigger and more complex than me have suspected.

Ha kul med EFB. ;)

03-31-2013, 07:27 AM
A very early version of the EFB Taximap. The (red) taxiways are read directly from the FS9/FSX/P3D - scenery.

Later all selected taxiways appear of course at the same time, not like now only getting the current. The underlying map can be hidden

[QUOTE=skino;140135]Tool for the chart management. Comes with the next update:

Hi Skinno,

Thanks for sharing this great program. I haven't been able to update since just before the wind update. I'm not sure why. Is the proper procedure to download and re install the entire program for each update? I know this sounds a simple question, but the update page doesn't seem to work for me.

05-05-2013, 10:51 AM
Hi birdguy,

The update is always the complete new program. Just download, unzip and run the CpEFB or FoEFB exe. Enter your data and you're done.

This is the last version with wind forecast and Taximap, both still work in progress:

Download BoEFB.zip (http://www.2download.de/download-55b0dce57b47df0013b6bfdfd5636f3f.php.BoEFB.zip#.UYZwVduQx7t)

I'm looking for just an other hoster, because this shows too much advertising lately.

A new version with approximately 50 charts and the ChartBuilder tool comes in the next week. Probably next Thursday, there is a public holiday in Germany and I have time for the upload.

05-25-2013, 04:25 PM
Dear Skino
Tryed to download the EFB soft from the posted link , but without luck.
Where is possible to download the last version?

With regards

After the major update from 4 weeks ago, I have again added an EFB in the iPad design, since for example, Quantas uses for its Boeing aircraft Ipad EFB.

Qantas is Launch Customer for Boeing OPT for iPad (http://www.aviationtoday.com/av/topstories/Qantas-is-Launch-Customer-for-Boeing-OPT-for-iPad_77213.html#.Ul-tu-FfZBO)

and United Airlines uses this variant:

United Airlines deploying iPad-based electronic flight bags to all its
pilots (http://www.theverge.com/2011/8/23/2379313/united-airlines-deploying-ipad-based-electronic-flight-bags-to-all)

http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/2923/93q1.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/594/93q1.jpg/)

and "Fake":

http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/9498/nuhb.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/543/nuhb.jpg/)

The download can be found here (http://goo.gl/lxBG2C). Requirement is an existing version of the EFB. The current version of the September 7 2013 can be found here (http://boefb.webnode.com). Copy the PadEFB.EXE in the directory of the EFB. Then either start the CpEFB.EXE or PadEFB.EXE. Both access the same data and settings, are therefore not separately configurable.

This is only a design variant and can not be used on an iPad!

There is still much to do. Unfortunately, there are still many errors. But it goes on.

10-17-2013, 01:32 PM
Thanks Skino,
All good things come in time if you are patient. Keep up the great work and don't overwork your self as this a free addon
and I bet appreciated by many.

Kindest Regards

Anyone downloaded the file yet. It appears to have a PUP installer which Malware and Anti virus flags because it wants
to install additional software. One would have to disable these to install. It appears to be a download manager.
Is it all ok.
Peter what is music you use to accompany your video?.

Music: "The Moon In Flower Looks on Silent Night" by Patricia Spero (Youtube Musicpool)

You must download the file ZIP, not the file EXE! See picture in post #64.
