I just went out to the shed and decided to build something with the materials I collected over the past few years. I wanted it to be as cheap and quick a build as possible, but still resemble something realistic. I have been looking into single seat designs for some time, so I decided to go with an L-39 as the inspiration for my design. My goal is not to make something exacting to the real thing, but to make something that fits me, is cheap, and will be fun to "play around in." I have only spent around 4-5 hours and $25, and I'm pretty excited with the way it has come out so far. I just wanted to share my progress since none of my friends can really appreciate it like fellow cockpit builders can. Here is proof that anyone can build a cockpit. ;)

I used two existing solid pallets I found at work for the base. This unintentionally made channels for
any cabling to be run under/through the entire cockpit out of site.

My boys testing it out.

I used this stiff piece of metal bar as a contour gauge to trace for templates.

One sides skin is on.

From the front. I hope to add a windscreen eventually.

It's been a looooong time since I first posted this back in 2011. I've also made some significant progress, LOL. Just wondering if anyone's interested in pictures or build photos. I posted something on reddit earlier this summer when I finished the shell. I need some encouragement to document the full build up to this point, so if you want to see more, let me know.

I'm always up for seeing how people accomplished different things, the more pics the better and I second the video request.

Cheers
