Rotary Encoder Confirmation

Can someone confirm my rotary encoder choice before I purchase? I was going to buy these http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?vendor=0&keywords=288t232R11 to use for the rotaries such as OBS / HDG for the gauge and navigation instruments of a Cessna cockpit. One thing I am not sure about is if any of them should have a built in switch. I'm not using any for the avionics stack so I don't think so.

You need to check the correct type accord to the electronic card that you will use. I believe this CTS is correct for IOCARDS

You should check the type of encoder as well as the type of card e.g CTS288 grey code encoder works directly with Open Cockpits master card, ELMAE37 dual encoders need modified PIC code with encoder card from OC, Leo Bodnar cards will work with some encoders etc. Spend some time reading up on the cokpit builders websites as there are several threads running right now before you make your purchese. You need to understand the different types such as quadrature, grey code , absolute, incremental 1/2 cycle etc. Better to follow someone else's example rather than re-invent the wheel( or should that be encoder?) It will save you time and money

Hi,

You need to check both encoder type and card support.

As far as I can say, for example Simcard Ethernet is compatible, with ELMA33, ELMA37, CTS288, ALPS ECII.

You only need to change a variable from true to false if the encoder is 1/2 cycle type. Everything is described in the SC-Pascal manual in which you can learn to program input-output-displays-servos-analog inputs...
