My dad used to fly RC planes all the time when I was a kid, one guy nicknamed kamikaze used to fly a helicopter kind of like that. Dad used to have me and my brother sit under the tailgate of the pickup when he flew his heli.

There's quite a few RC pilots here. It goes hand in hand with our hobby..... :)

I never got the hang of it, I did race 1/8 and 1/4 scale rc cars at a national level for a few years.

R/C helicopters were and still are a great challange. I admire anyone that can keep one up in the air using a full tank of fuel. I have given up the R/C hobby now due to a back problem many years ago. I had 3 helicopters and could hover them and that was about it.

I was really into large scale aircraft. The best model was an 80" wing span Hawker Hurricane. It had a 15cc inverted four stroke engine, mechanical retracts, landing light (which came on when the wheels came down), sliding canopy and all the rivet detail on the wings made out of 'blobs' of white glue. A real joy to fly and sounded good too.

Aaah - memories.

Helicopters are quite a challenge. I never got the hang of it, too much money down the drain trying it... LOL

I finally gave up when a 3,000 dollar plane went straight down into the ground because of a faulty battery. :( That did it for me. Although I loved flying them.

Do you know what Matt,
I honestly think I could have put up with the faulty battery but I lost my Hurricane big time (black plastic bin bag job) when some idiot turned on his transmitter to run his engine up at a big display our club was putting on for the public. The idiot was on the same frequency as me and thought that he was exempt from the frequency rules that we had in place that day. I was not happy but at least it pleased the crowd.

I could have cried and probably would have if I wasn't so angry.
