After looking into a thread and noticing some bogus post and bogus members, I decided to sit here for a while and follow some of these post and boy what did I discover...a lot!

First, these bogus members have been on MYC for a while, some back as far as Feb 2010. What they did was make a bunch of accounts and then start threads. They'll use like three of these bogus members to make replys in the threads, that almost look legit. They're wording that appears within the replys seem to reference what is talked about. You'll notice that they even sometimes copy what an actual legit member has said and use it for themselves.

Second, these bogus members are placing blue or white hyperlinks at the bottom that might say something like:

r4i gold cards
ibiza flights
thompson late deals
live dealer casinos
something in arabic (looks like that)
kitchen

Well, If you keep going further, you'll find that they might sound as if they have bad english skills, to make you believe what they're saying is important, but because of the bad english you'll overlook it. Or, they even have good english skills, but yet they're still bogus because the thread still contains the hyperlinks below. Additionally, you'll see they could be from the USA, UK, NZ and/or other places.

Third, yes I know that many of us do put hyperlinks at the bottom to go to websites of our own and it's to do with our sims, and not some place to do with a watch or car (for example). Also, some of these hyperlinks of these bogus member named users might be in arabic or russian.

Fourth, you'll find the average amount of posts they've made are about 5, but it does vary from 3-9 posts. Also, you'll see something of a familiar flow of how it's done. The bogus member might start the thread or be in the middle of it, and you might notice 1-3 different replys by the same or different bogus names.

Finally, here is list I believe almost for certain to be bogus members:

powelstag
editdesign
heavyrain
stifangibbsun
brevedecane
jeckbets
martingorero
stiven251
jack.19987
hartadavis
nevaeh.aaric
jeckronald
jackbency
russelbrooke
otisbirnoit

I'm posting this to save actual real members from clicking on those hyperlinks that could lead to viruses, spam or some other horrible thing. I didn't click on any of them because I know better, but if you just put your cursor over the hyperlink (without clicking) and look at the very bottom of your browser window, you'll see what and where these hyperlinks go to.

MYC, they got a good scam going here, so please look into this...

John,

Thank you for your warning. We received other alerts as well, but you have been able to tie them together and give a bigger picture.
We will look into this, I'm sure, but continuous help from our members is also needed and - that goes without saying, but i do it anyway - is highly appreciated.

Hey Guys,

I am glad to be of help. I just wish the bad guys that do this would leave us flight simmers and MYC alone, they should know that we're the elk that would see right through their bogus stuff. There are way too many smart flight simmers on here that sooner or later would have caught these bad guys; I was just one of the first, that's all.

Okay, I was looking at the names for the peolpe that Matt says user not found, like powelstag, so look below and this is where they're located, but first did you Matt or JWS remove the blue hyperlinks from these bogus accounts? I just want to make sure it was you and not the owner of the bogus member accounts shutting them off to try and trick us, as if they turned them off so we would'nt notice, and then later turn them back on or something.

Anyway, here are the three from the original list:

powelstag -

This is his first and yes, he last posted in 02/2010, but I think this is the starting account.
http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/showthread.php/19362-What-are-the-benefits-of-a-Linux-operating-system?highlight=powelstag

This is powelstag's second post and look who replied, all of the other banned users:
http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/showthread.php/19362-What-are-the-benefits-of-a-Linux-operating-system?p=99499&highlight=#post99499

This is his third and he has one of the bogus members for a reply.
http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/showthread.php/19352-Difference-between-Windows-7-RC-and-the-Windows-7-RTM

Even though powelstag may appear to be legit because his posts sound like legit questions and they're in the right forum location, he still is just the baiter for the other bogus members. And, he did have the hyperlinks...

Please check stifenhowk as his has a odd blue hyperlink below, but I think he might be legit though (that's because I don't know what it says in the hyperlink).

Sorry about the spelling, but it should be the name of:
harthadavis.

As for the other, it should have been: editdesoja. I didn't spell it correctly the first time, here it is:
http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/showthread.php/20676-Vista-support-my-pc.?p=109096&highlight=#post109096

Here are some new ones, and look how this daviddwilson did it. He took the time make the qoute appear in his reply, but look below for the hypelink-"watch movies online":

daviddwilson-one post seen here:
http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/showthread.php/14469-Aerosoft-747-MCP-64bit-compatible?p=110324&highlight=#post110324

samalden-seen in four places, but here is just one of them:
http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/showthread.php/8649-USB-problem/page3

thomasstuart-seen in six post, but I like this one here (again look at the blue hyperlink):
http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/showthread.php/14469-Aerosoft-747-MCP-64bit-compatible

tomdesile-seen in three post, this is one of them (look you'll see editdesoja):
http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/showthread.php/20676-Vista-support-my-pc.?p=109096&highlight=#post109096

Man, this keeps getting to be more and more, here is another:

robinpaschal-seen in five posts, one is here:
http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/showthread.php/19849-New-CNC-Machine?p=109095&highlight=#post109095

jamesshock-seen in four post, one of them here (read what peterk ask right below this post by jamesshock):
http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/showthread.php/19753-CNC-Free-Capacity?p=108646&highlight=#post108646

I see that zolly-is banned, seen here:
http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/showthread.php/18830-How-to-estimate-verify-737-Vspeeds?p=97997&highlight=#post97997

However, if they're banned, how come their posts still remain because the hyperlinks are still there, like in zolly's case? I could've missed the fact that some of these names could be banned already, but their posts are there so, I assumed they were not handled yet.

Finally, if I find more, I'll post them. I'm sure there is more, but it takes a bit of time because you have to read through the post to look for the other bogus member names to appear or to find the odd blue hyperlinked ones. I don't mind though, as I rather spend an hour doing this instead of 2 weeks recovering my hard drive from a virus or something that could come from one of these bogus members...

Got the ones banned on the above post.

This group of spammers all have different IP's, although they report being from regions of the world other than the post originated, I can trace there origin. This group is clever and are willing to take the time to go through the registration process and then post. Lot's of time involved. This is amazing.

I know two hot spots where these posters come from. As of about a month ago, I check all new registrants, some will slip by me before I can ban them from the server, most I get during the registration process. Fortunate for us, they do not follow through the whole registration process quickly, it takes them about an hour. But this is painstaking work, for all of us that are involved in catching spammers. I certainly appreciate all the help we get in quickly removing these spammers.

Banning a person does not delete their post, we have to go in and delete the individual posts or delete the thread. We'll get there... :)

Thanks again John for the information.
