Right then, on my quest to restoring an old aircraft panel. I've got 2 contacts from a rotary encoder i want to put onto the bodnar card. There is currently nothing else wired up to it... so which plugs shall i use for my first 2 connections and as its a rotary is there a special place these 2 need to go.

I will value your help.

Gez.

Rotary Encoders.

Generally have 3 pins left middle and right.

Left pin on encoder to input one (any spare input on leo card will do)...ie INPUT ONE

Middle pin on encoder to GND (earth/ground on leo card)

Right pin on encoder to input two (to any other spare input on leo card)....ie INPUT TWO

Make sure that you wire inputs in equal pairs ie 1 & 2, or 3 & 4 etc, because you will have to flash them using the utility from leo's site:

http://www.leobodnar.com/products/BU0836X/

You can find download on leos page where it says

"Download encoder configuration software for Windows"

No special place on card where rotaries go, just wire them in equal pairs and select 'that' pair that your using on the utility
program.

Need any more help just PM me, I'm in all day tomorrow!

Hope this helps...

Yes, this is how I did it and it works very well. I used a BU0836 card, but basically what I did was connect left pin to column 1, middle pin to row 1 and right pin to column 2 (i had nothing else connected on the board). Next, as Alex says, the configuration program is needed to get the card to make the encoder work like one. For me, spinning clockwise repeatedly contacted button 2 on the card, anticlockwise contacted button 1 repeatedly.
Hope you find what you need.

Thanks for your help Alex and Brian, that does make sense and i'll be giving it a go in the next few weeks. Everythings in a mess at the minute, the computer isn't connected and the MIP will soon be going in.

I'll keep you updated. Hope it works with this panel :)
