I currently have 3 Dell 24" widescreens hooked up to a Matrox TH2Go Digital. I have all 3 monitors side by side as my main front view for my cockpit.

My question is... Would it be better to swap out these 3 monitors and just use a projector with only one big display? Eventually, I want to have 3 projectors but due to money constraint at this time, I was wondering if just getting one, would be better to use than using 3 monitors.

Would it give it more immersion over 3 monitors?

This is what mine looks like with 3 projectors and also with just one. (Early stage of building my sim) Projectors above and behind as well as in front projecting on the "windscreen"

Rear Projection:

Front projection:

All three were very imersive however the enclosed pit with the front projection has been the most.

I have had 3 23" monitors on a TH2G, but that looked too small for me, Currently using a 50" plasma on my desk (as I build my cockpit...scattered bits of avionics all over the desk...pain to fly now), but that still wasn't big enough, so I grabbed three short throw Projectors. Did a little testing and no way am I going back to the 23" or the 50" :) My cockpit will be life size, so my view should be the same :)

Thanks for the reply guys! Ok, so basically, even though I have 3 monitors which when placed side by side, only covers an area of 63" wide by 13" tall, if I was to setup just 1 projector such as this one: Optoma GT720, which projects a 120" diagonal display; I would most definitely get a much better picture and definitely much more immersion?

hmmmm I think it's time to start thinking about getting that projector... Anyone interested in buying 3 Dell 2405FPW 24" monitors in pristine conditions? =)

Better picture? Well that depends on your taste and really how big you make your picture (bigger picture, larger pixels...too big and blockiness sets in). With that projector you are at 1280 x 800, so your monitor will have more pixels and will likely look sharper, however its hard to be immersive with a life size cockpit and a 14" high world (screen) :) (at least for me it is)

Exactly, I would happily trade off " sharpness" and prefer to have a bigger display via the projector. =)
