Anybody got this Card?
For me, it is a nightmare to connect to! The 40 pins are so close together that Sodlering isn't an option, and not even IDC Connectors with Ribbon cable works (the card just pushes it straight back out again).
Anyone know how to connect to this Card?

Not sure why you're having a problem with an IDC connector, I have two of these cards both attached to an IDC and working perfectly..

Joe.

Right, I think the problem lies within the ribbon cable.
The IDCs look okay, but they actually snap in half (the small metal connectors) when applied to the Ribbon Cable. The Ribbon cable must be too big/thick.

Have you used an IDC connector before? you need to press them in a vice to close them properly, then attached the cable restraint.

Nope! Never used an IEC/IDC connector.
Nonetheless, I've just bought a cheap "pre-made" IDC with ribbon cable already attatched, it should be easy from hereon.

never had a problem either!
Also, i'm sure you know this but just in case, some premade cables that i had that are used for hard drives have one of the pinholes covered so you can't use those. Just make sure none of the holes in the ribbon where the pins connect are blocked!

watch some of the pre-made cables as they don't have a full 40pins! There is a plug sometimes in them and wont work with the connector on OC cards.

Buy these:

Cut off the male ends so that just the female connector and bare wire is exposed, and slot them over the pins. Your not using every pin if I am right so these will do the job, just wire what you need to the bare ends of the wires!
Atleast I think this will work, worked on my leo bodnar board a treat!

Good call there twisted8 that's one I hadn't thought of.
I make my own cables up (as I expect you do), so I use IDC header plugs and cable from Rapid Electronics. There is a special tool to crimp them on but I always use a bench vice, has worked fine for years...;)

Those servo connectors are a brilliant idea. Thanks

Low and behold... The connector I just bought doesn't work. So that's ANOTHER trip back to the shop where I got it from.
Yeeshh... It's only ever Opencockpits hardware in which I seem to have problems with.

What is the issue with the cable? Does it not fit or the card not work?

It does not fit the 40-pin connector.
